We are due to set of on our first trip abroad to Tuscany. Has anyone got any tips or recommendations regarding traveling about or staying in the region. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Italy

It's one of my ambitions to 'do' Italy but I am a little apprehensive of the roads having seen some of the driving over there. I guess its an age related thing because I wouldn't have thought twice about it in my younger days.

Depending on what sort of unit you are driving you may find getting onto Sostas difficult. I was in Tuscany in May and they do not class campervans as motorhomes. It took a lot of persuading before the jobsworth allowed me to stay overnight. If you drive a coachbuilt you shouldn't have a problem.

As for driving habits, don't worry. Most rural roads are quiet and even in the towns and citys they are quite tolerant of us foreigners. One tip - once you have started a manouver don't change your mind. They will read your intentions and drive round you, change your mind and you will confound them.

Gosh that's bigger than my house.
Thanks to Yorkshirepudding for the driving tips.
