'tunit' diesel performance enhancement device

Powertrain

Has anybody tried using the 'tunit' diesel control chip devices on a Peugeot HDI unit?
The performance figures quoted are interesting but I assume the insurance might be raised?

I have a Tunit box fitted to my 2.8 JTD. I bought it off the former owner of my van. It is set up to give more acceleration through the gears and not to suit cruising in top gear. I did not have the van long enough to make a good comparison of before and after.

When I rang my insurance up (Caravan Guard) to tell them, they said it will make no difference as they give some leeway on power. There are various settings for different results. As I have no paperwork with the Tunit, I have been wondering what difference the various settings make. If anyone can enlighten me, I would be most grateful.:D

When you look at the price of the Tunit box, it might be worth looking at having the engine remapped instead. Some people say the results are better and you can often get it done at m/home shows at a reduced price.

I have a tunnit vcr fitted to our motormome 2.8 jtd,127hp, it has 9? settings each setting is worth 5hp, it has helped with mpg, and performance. google it,tunit
and read the reports on the web page

Had a Tunit on my 2001 2.8L 125bhp Iveco Daily 35c13 based Laika and the change was dramatic ... happily towing up hills that previously would have slowed it to a crawl and had lorries overtaking, or more worryingly queuing behind me (with all the overtaking restrictions in Europe).

Three years ago we replaced that Laika with a New one (Euro4) 176bhp AUTO 35c18 base.

Now while this new van has plenty of power and is a joy to drive fully leaded with people, gear and a 2T box trailer when the weight (and driving style) smooths things out the auto box can be a little "S L O W" and jerky when unloaded. Before the Tunit the auto box often held 2nd at too low road speeds ... then snatched first jolting the van forward. I thought the extra torque might help especially as the box can be slow to "kick Down" too ... perhaps fuel consumption will improve too?

Initial impressions are that unladen progress is MUCH smoother up through the gears ... only fitted it today (plug in T connector at the far back end of "Common Rail") so I'll keep you posted ...

Is there anything you can do to overcome bad turbo lag, which i get between first and second gears. It can be a right nuisance and also a tad embarasing on hills. The engine is a 1992 2.5 ducato.

if its the "Bosch" version Tunit (and others) do a Box that will boost from 115 to 135 ... and therefore widen the toque curve so it will pull up steeper hills without needing lower gears ... BUT IMO with an engine that age you would be better off getting it remapped by a specialist who can check its state of health and advise you of the limits / and potential consequences ...

My Tunit comes with a 3 year Drive Line Warranty for faults it creates ;)
