Truma water system drain valves

Thanks to Alf and other forum members I discovered the problem with my Autosleeper Executive water system that was due to a faulty drain valve.
The repair may be of interest to other members.
The guy at AutoSleepers Spares department is excellent and he noticed from my photo of the valve in circuit that it was fitted with two 10mm male connectors while the new spares and van models are moulded with two female 10mm connectors. All of the remainder of the pipes and fittings are 12mm. He gave me FOC a length of 12mm pipe but I soon discovered that this wasn't sufficient to make up a new circuit.
The solution was:
Fit the male NR valve male into the 3 way valve and use one of the 10/12mm connectors to make up the down stream circuit.
I then had to turn on my lathe (out of a but of scrap Aluminium alloy bar) a double ended 10/12mm male section to make up the upstream section.
I know that a few members will not have a lathe - so be warned that replacement of old with new valves is not entirely straight forward.
FINALLY: I was about to cut open the old valve to see how it had failed - first I gave it a hard shake and a thump to see if I could hear a ball inside - then I found it worked again perfectly.
So before you replace these items - give'em a thump

Powertrain always good to help someone that’s the idea of the forum, one of the benifits of becoming a full member is that you can get more specific information sent via PM's

A full range of fittings adaptors are available at most good caravan dealers or central heating supplies outlets I always prefer to fit a stainless steel insert to stiffen the plastic pipe this then holds firm within the push fit fittings.
I always fit a isolating valve on the cold feed to the hot water boiler when the cold weather comes I drain the hot system down but allow the cold water to the sink for cold weather use
glad your sorted

Thats a great idea Alf, one of the jobs to do on my new motorhome in March,
including swapping my gaslow over.
fitting 160 watt of solar panels.
Fitting reversing camera.
extra leisure battery and invertor.

cheers,
John.
