Hi all, first post, be kind!
I am travelling to France for the first time so looking to book the ferry Dover to Calais.
I have spent some time trying to establish if I can book my van as a camper/motor home on Irish Ferries or DFDS, customer service not been very helpful, still registered as van with the DVLA, it's a plain white Renault Master LWB High Top, 6m X 3m It is fully converted internally with a window on sliding door and one on driver's side with twin solar panels on the roof. Any advice would be appreciated.
cheers John

Hi there, welcome! We go with the tunnel and book as a motorhome ( registered as van) Eurotunnel don't seem to charge any different whichever it is booked as...just height and length is the important thing. The French border guards nearly always treat us as a van and ask what we are carrying until we say " a bed and living accommodation " , think it is because they are on the "van" side whereas UK can see the extra windows. So don't know if they read the booked description !

Do irih ferries sail dover calais ? Their rules may not be the same

They do, my request to customer service was specific to my van, not a route. I go on the 11th April, I'll update the thread if I have any issues or not.

All these years travelling to France ( Dover to Calais ) and back we`ve always used P&O. i never knew Irish Ferries sailed that route.

Just done a dummy booking and their price comes back cheaper than P&O was quoting even before this fiasco.

Thank you roady987 (y)

Campervan, motorhome or private panel Van (not traveling in the purpose of business) it makes no odds. The price goes on the size not the vehicle type.

Hi John,
You’ll find you will be made very welcome everywhere you go.
Overnight parking is no problem, loads of it free in the villages and countryside . Where are you planning on going?

Is DFDS still the cheapest?

It never was for my needs ...................................................................... 7.5m x 2.9m motothome, 2 adaults, 0 children, 0 pets.

Weirdly the Dover - Calais route was also more expensive than the Dover - Dunkirk route but even that one was more expensive than P&O sailings.
