Hi Jen ....he is a cross betweeen a lab/springer he is 4yrs old so he can be loopy at times although he has settled down a lot We havent taken him in the camper before so we thought while we were travelling it would be safer to put him in a crate/kennel type thingy. A friend of a friend had one to see how I got on with it and already he has taken to it he seems to be treating it like his little den..........He is our first dog ever and we have had some issues with him so everything seems to be trial or error. Honest its like having a baby all over again Jen, and hubby wants doggy number 2 ????? errrmmmm I dont think soooooo :scared:!!!!!

lol, dont talk to me about dogs, lol, Henry is an absolute nightmare, last monday he ripped open a box of oven pride and chewed the bottle,, he has burnt his mouth and his paw, cost me £120 at vets, he then nicked my brand new lipstick, played with it then eaten it, my kitchen was a right mess, thats just some of the things, but........... when travelling he is absoultly fine, lol, i have a large dog crate you could borrow, it folds down, i could bring it to bugsworth for you to look at if you want, xx

Thanks for the offer to bring the crate to bw..... will give you a shout if I still need one. This one is just on loan to me for now. Shame you cant make Stonehenge Jen would be lovely to see you but I know its an almighty trek.

Hai

I got both my crates of e bay new not used ones

I now use the smaller one (son s claimed the larger one) and she is happy travelling in it
check the sizes and where it will fit in your M/H and what you will do with it when not travelling

Izzy use to sleep in hers but not any more just travelling don't want to go down the road of her being harnessed on the seat

at home it is left open in the kitchen/dining room and she often goes in it and sleeps in it at night but in the M/H my bed looks more comfy

Same as Polly, ours came from ebay and it was only about £34 delivered and they are brilliant, we have a German shepherd and a Border collie and you can get to them through the top or from the front and are totally washable in case of accidents.

good luck with finding one :have fun:

I have used all manner of crates, and my favorite by far is this one.

Dog Health — Ultra-Lightweight Cages

It is very light weight, but highly durable. I've had mine for years (~8) and it's been bashed about, had puppies and adults (dogs!) in it and it has proved to be very gnaw and scratch proof. And, very useful is that it is sturdy enough to use as a table top (within reason).

I now have three of them! ....but only because I have three dogs :)

LOL I know what you mean! I'm a one dog person really, life was so much simpler then. I did not plan on having the other two, they just kind of happened. However life is much more fun now. Although I'm bl**dy knackered these days. People say it's my advancing years that causes it, I say it's training 3 border collies :sleep-027:
:have fun:

We have 4 Whippets and 2 Pugs....that is why we need a big van.

The Pugs travel in a metal cage and the Whippets are free to lie where they want, although Dash is usually sat behind me with his chin resting on my shoulder. I don't think he trusts the Satnav.

It is very important to measure your Dachshund carefully to ensure you are purchasing the correct size. This can be a little confusing – here are step-by step instructions on how to measure your Dachshund for a crate that will comply with airline rules. When choosing a crate for airline travel with your Dachshund please be aware that an airline can refuse to take your dog on the flight for not having the correct airline approved crate and if it is the wrong size for your Dachshund.

We thought about having a crate, my daughter uses 2 for her dogs, but i think they are a bit of hassle and taken up a lot of space, so as i did not want the dogs in the van we bought a van with a garage and i have cut a door opening in the wall beneath the bed ( a lot allready have doors but this 1 did not) we leave the door out all the time only to go back when we change the van, this allows them 2 see us and visa versa when travelling.
this works for us but maybe not all, our springers are well behaved and do not venture into the van at all.
Just another option hope you get sorted
We are thinking about having 2 more:hammer:mad or what

Hi Grumpy2 ....

Our van is beyond tiny and the crate is literally the width and length of the walkway so very tight indeed and yes it does take up a lot of space, our intention is to just use when we are travelling. Its a canvass crate we have borrowed so simple to put down I think:confused:. I think I just wanted to try it out mainly for safety reasons but also somwhere to put our nutty dog when he is bouncing off the walls .....he still a lively toddler thats got boundless energy !!!!:mad2:.

What you have done to your van sound like a great Idea though......
