Transplant patient gets 10 parking tickets

A transplant patient in the university hospital of Wales had 10 x £30 parking tickets even though she had a notice telling them she was in the transplant unit.

This is one of the few hospitals in Wales that still charge patients. I believe they are tied into a contract.

It must be stressful enough having a transplant without this added worry.

I'm not at all surprised at anything in this day and age. It's scandalous but I don't expect anything will be done about it. Her best bet is to go to court rather than pay.

If they are a Parking Charge Notice rather than Penalty Charge Notice or Fixed Penalty Notice, she is best toally ignoring them in any case, especially following a court ruling last week which stated if the "offence" occurred on private land, and the parking enforcement company does not own that land, they cannot take it to court.

Parking Charge Notices given on private land are made to look official and as like a Penalty Charge Notice (which must be paid) as possible. They rely on a contract having been entered into between the driver and the private parking enforcement company (other parking tickets are not driver dependant but are owed by the registered keeper). However, a contract cannot be imposed on somebody, it has to be agreed. Common advice is to totally ignore these (but NOT the other sorts), you'll get increasingly nasty and threatening letters, but eventually they let it drop.

If you look at the link, the sign says "Have you payed and displayed, Civil penalty charge notice in force". It also says that the parking company have removed the notices from the car and are "looking into it." Ie They are going to back off (in not so many words), so I think this one has died a death :lol-053:
