Transit conversion?

Today I've been to see a MH convertered from a 2000 (year)diesel transit LWB with 125000, but with MH on V5. Her indoors doesn't like in insides, but it has a back box/cycle frame and was there not a blitz last year on them been illegal? Any opinions?

Whats the question?
I have a backbox and bike rack on a transit conversion (professional)
And my V5 says MH. You need to have certain "things" to convert from van to MH on V5 (e.g. water, bed etc) and a few other things.
All I can say is make sure you get the right tranny engine. Some are really really slow and give the tranny a bad name. Ours, of course, isn't :)

On backboxes? Hmmm. Mine is only attached on the tow bar and its done 20,000m in 2-3 years with no one in authority questioning it? Hadn't heard anything about it either?

Engine depends on you I guess - I've got a new(er) common rail 125 engine and this is great (Tranny mk 6). The 100 is okay but the 85 is awful (for a camper). All same size so its not just down to size.

What is the issue here? Overhang or weight distribution?

Axle loading.
I can see that design rear axle loading could be exceeded if you were not careful, but that goes for an unconverted van too, plus you have to make sure the rack/box is fixed to a suitably reinforced part of the vehicle. You do see loads of panel van convertions with bike racks attached to the rear doors, so it presumably can be done right.

Overhang. There is a stipulation that the rear overthang should not exceed 60% of the wheelbase of the vehicle, but even that is not definitive. It is something to the effect of no part of the overhanging part should break a scribed circle drawn by the rear off side and nearside corners of the original vehicle when describing a 12m turning circle.

My Coachbuilt MH has a 2m overhang on a 3.3m wheelbase as originally built and personally I wouldn't want a larger overhang than that. I don't klnow if any of this helps the OP, but all the info is available on the net if you need it.

i've got an insurance quote of £620 inc breakdown! Which seems a bit on the high side,10 years NCD on car, clean licence put how long is a piece of string? Any opinions?

only problem with the 125 engine is the injectors dont like cheap diesel and the injectors are expensive and fail at about 100k and need to be coded into the engine to run correct..better to have the 100ps engine and get it chipped as it is then better on fuel or save up a bit more and get the 135 engine..btw all the above are the 2.4 diesel engine dont even bother with the 2.0 diesel engine as they are front wheel drive and have problems with the fuel pump..
