Transit clutch

My motorhome is a Hymer 572 on the new transit base. Everytime i reverse up a hill i get the clutch burning smell, spoke to ford when the van had its first service and the dealer said the van was overloaded. I have been to a weigh bridge and the van is well in the plated limits on total weight and on the front and rear axles even when fully loaded. As a driver i dont have a history of burning out clutches even on other vans i drive.
Has anyone had the same problem or got any suggestions.

The Transits have a high reverse gear like the Fiats. I would speak to Trading Standards if I were you.

Find out what type of Flywheel is fitted. If it is the double flywheel, then there have been problems with them on a number of vehicles (including cars)

Sorry to spoil your day with this but there is potential for expensive problems and it sounds like you are being fobbed off.

Search other forums and try to find out as much as you can on this.

transit clutch

hi
i have transit and don't find the reverse gear too high make sure when you are reversing your foot is away from the clutch pedal.
mine reverses beutifully, but it's a rear wheel drive.
good luck

tranny clutch

mines smells too,but only when I have been thrashing it..its rwd too.but my works van which is fwd has in the past been smelly.they both have dualmass flywheels. My m/h has 6k on the ckock and its two years old

I also have a new model Transit base on my Dethleffs SE Van. Mine is the 140 bhp 6 speed front wheel drive.
My van had a problem stalling in 1st and reverse when new and this was sorted out by Ford with a remap.
Perhaps you are over revving to stop it stalling?
Now my van will reverse up my drive without me touching the throttle.

Thanks for all the help my tranny is 140BHP front wheel drive and yes you maY have a good point as my misses always stalls the van in forward and reverse and i have been thinking its her .Better eat humble pie with the misses and talk to ford again when it goes in for a service

I seem to remember they (Ford) did a PCM/ECU update and they recalibrated the injectors.
I have never stalled it since.
Before this I had stalled at traffic lights and islands so was over revving to avoid the abuse of drivers behind:mad:
Dont wait till service time get it done now.
