Don't hit the road in France on following days (Motorways + nationals):
Worst traffic jams
Espacially all roads out of Paris, the Rhone valley (autoroute du soleil) and around Lyon
13th to 17th July - the first big holiday departure. Last weekend of July (the busiest of the summer) - 29th to 31st.
The first weekend of August - 5th to 7th.
Really bad traffic jams
Second weekend of July - 8th to 10th.
Fourth weekend of July - 22nd to 24th.
Second weekend of August - 12th to 15th (Assumption weekend).
Third weekend of August - 19th to 22nd (returning holidaymakers).
Last weekend of August - 26th to 28th (returning holidaymakers).
Avoid if possible to hit the road at those times.

A map of FREE (no toll) motorways is to be found at:
Camping Car CCeL -* Autoroutes, la carte des gratuites

Hi Bob
This week should still be calm. You'll be OK.
Avoid the Rhone-valley on your way down to the Ardeche, it is allways a mess from Lyon to Orange
Friday in a week the exodus will start. Watch for the Dutch with their caravans on all roads leading south in that weekend. It only takes one upside down caravan to block half of France:eek:
Have a nice trip :)
