Towing with a drawbar

Howdy folks,

I have a Goka road legal 2 seater buggy, like this

I bought it to take to France behind the motorhome.
I have made a drawbar which slides under the buggy and lifts the front wheels about a foot of the ground, whilst the rear wheels run on the ground, like a fancy trailer.

Does anyone know the legal stand point of such a set-up? I have seen another buggy company who sell this kind of set up as an extra with their buggies. I have used it a few times in this country and it tows like an absolute dream, helped by the supply suspension on the rear of the buggy, and the length of the drawbar making it very stable and relatively easy to reverse.

Cheers

I am not 100% sure but I believe an unbraked trailer (which you might be considered in law) must not exceed 750 Kg.

If your van is over 3,500 Kg and is classed as Private Heavy Goods, then you might possibly get round that. ;)

'A' frames are being banned in Spain but that might not apply to you in other parts of Europe. We are supposed to now have standardised laws in the EU but in practise, we do not. I would do a lot of research if I was you.

As above has said dont try it in Spain the car must not be towed with any wheels on the ground,

Thanks for the prompt replies chaps,

I forgot to mention that the buggy weighs approx 350 kg, which in my mind makes it an unbraked trailer, just trying to work out what the law says.

I've no immediate plans to head to Spain

hi.if it has rear wheel brakes fitted they must be working if its a trailer. as aframes they are not allowed in spain for locals ,but if its legal in country of regestration (within eu)then its legal throughout eu. there has been refunds of fines in spain.google caratow.you should find some info. or try. dft fact sheet note on aframes and dollies. am parked in spain now next to a few cars on aframes .have heard of people still getting fines but then most dont argue with the guardia. hard luck on them.
