Everyone got a bit more territorial I reckon during and since the pandemic but it also opened up the countryside hot spots to a lot of people who hadn't really bothered before I think. Its caused all sorts of problems and not just in Scotland.

What happened here in the North Yorkshire dales and Teesdale around High force was frankly disgraceful. They had to call the army in from Catterick at Richmond falls to clear out the yobbos when we got all that fine spring weather in the pandemic and the handful of local "Bobbies" on push bikes from the 50s couldn't cope.

That then of course led to the motorhome boom, cheap throw away tents boom (Which they literally just throw away) and the rest is history. I can see why it annoys folk on here who have been leaving nothing but footprints for years and often leave places tidier than they found them. Personally I would like to see these yobbos publicly flogged or maybe hung drawn and quartered.

I doubt anything will get implemented in the Highlands although I wouldn't put it past the Cumbrians to do something and frankly I hope they do. As said though I don't think its motorhomes that are the issue there. Facebook etc is to blame. Someone will post an idyllic wild camping spot, swimming spot, or secret waterfall just for likes and there will be 200 responses wanting to know where it is etc. Its causing a lot of anger. It all started in the pandemic I reckon.

I reckon we are and many others tbh ...thats why to degree Park for night ( other apps available ) are also causing some of the over used places...and why some dont post up places they have found. It goes against the whole share n care thing BUT the social media gang grab it and bang orf it goes!
Pandemic certainly a big part to play with folks jumping on the van wagon to "escape" and hence the glut of vans and mohos about now on the selling sites.

I think there used to be more rangers than there now is. I know they were complaining about losing some of them I seem to remember. Its a vast area to police unfortunately the NC500 but maybe prosecuting and fining a few of the bad apples that spoil it and set a bad example might help as will working with the hire companies to ensure the dream they are selling is properly explained with a proper code of conduct.

I did watch a programme re the wardens etc and yes they are a lil short handed. And that is the "mentality " of the few litter droppers and crap leavers they know the likelihood of being caught is slim to none. And pleeeaaaassseeeee no more 'kin cctv cameras to try and catch them.
Not defending to moho rental business's they might well do the list of do's n don'ts on handover which is forgotten one of the forecourt probably.

Why not have a tourist tax, all local authorities in Europe charge it. Normally added to campsite bill

Another tax....just how far will a state pension stretch.....
Though it won't bother me as I rarely stop at a campsite.

In France the tax is pennies and we’ll worth it as it pays for 1000’s of summer campsites they run. As long as our authorities don’t get greedy , (which they probably will) it’s needed

Due to attending a different college than all the other craft and tech apprentices, one day a week in the apprentice school it would be me and the undergrads, I spent a lot of time helping the instructors sort out the mess the undergrads made of things, and helping with first aid.

There's a lot of misunderstanding in the posts on this thread, starting with ... the proposed tax (in Highland) is on all tourists - actually all travellers including those from (for example) the north-west who have to travel to/ stay in Inverness to attend hospital. It's NOT about campervans and motorhomes.
