Can anybody recommend any guide books of Britain, looking for some inspiration as to where to go on holiday this year. There is far to many to choose from on amazon!!
You can still but some of the original Reader's Digest Tour Britain Guides from years back...it's the one with the places shown on a local area map...I think mine cost about 1.50 plus postage....(eBay).

Yup & the AA guides, often found in charity shops (no postage to pay!) & a great place to start. Just pick a general area from that & then go to your library for local guide books. You will know what interests you be it Castles, stately homes, waterfalls, rivers, hills, wildlife, bird reserves, fairs, shops, Caves, whatever. Always call at the local Tourist Info place for the most up-to-date info plus prices & timetables for events & attractions. For specific attractions, check out their websites for info. We like ancient ruins so joined English Heritage for free access - after a year it includes Scottish Heritage & CADW (Wales). Friends prefer stately homes & joined the NT, but both have good web sites with lots of special events listed.
My missus has always had as much fun planning the holidays & writing up the scrapbook & photo albums as she does on the actual trip.
