Tour de France

Belgian

Running from Saturday July 4th to Sunday July 26th 2009, the 96th Tour de France will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,500 kilometres in France and northern Spain.
Nice to follow on your tele.:)
But a disaster when you are somewhere in the vicinity motorhoming when the tour is coming along .
Roads will be blocked, not only for the racers but mostly for the publicity caravans preceding and following.
There are also packs of would-be cycle 'terrorists' on the road trying to equal their idoles. And you have thousands of spectators camping, picknicking everywhere. Traffic jams, noice, rubbish, drunks, overpopulation..... you name it. This goes especially for the Alps and the Pyrennees.
Look at the map and note days, places, roads to avoid

Thanks for the info and link Belgian.. Booked on a ferry the day before, from Dover to Dunkerque. Didn't even consider the race being on at the time, but planning to head down to the South for a couple of weeks. Looking at the route it goes I should miss it but may catch a section on the way home. Thanks again.
