Driving back from France on Tuesday and it was very hot. Our coach built is based on a Boxer and does not
have aircon. In the front we were Ok with windows open etc but the kids in the back were in a very sorry
state and looked to be suffering from heat exhaustion. We rotated them each for a go in the passenger seat
but this go me wondering about opening roof vents/ side windows when doing 70mph on the motorway. I came
to motorhoming from caravaning where a part of the pre-towing routine is to make sure all windows/vents are
closed - is it OK to open them in a motorhome? What do you do?

Keep mine shut when moving.

I have accidentally left roof vent open but made worrying noises and was quickly shut. The older the MH the more brittle the plastic so I don't think it's worth the risk.

We had same problem coming back from Kent last week needed the front windows open all the time and stopped every couple of hrs.

How about fitting a fan in the back? a 240v running off an inverter is a cheap option, they're about 60w from memory so a small inverter running whilst driving should stir up the heat at least!!

I have the Fiamma Turbo vent fan in my roof. This monster is as good as air con in a small van, and I have used it on the road too. Just keep the roof vent open a small amount and adjust fan to blow in rather than extract.

Also great for sleeping on warm nights. They are worth a look as a fraction of air con price (£130-150?)

Get some 12 volt fans from Caravan shops they work very well and just plug into 12v sockets,

I've seen a few campers fitted with aircon by using refrigeration units from freezer vans 12volt and should be easy to fit

hi, there is a system used on trucks that as a small water pump that pumps water up to a filter type system on the roof vent .there is a fan there that then blows cool air into the cab.cant think of its name at the moment. you see them at truck shows here . very common on continental trucks . werent that expensive as i remember.
think i would just open a roof vent slightly. used to have a 2.1 inj vw very fast we used to just wind it up a little ,never had a problem.
cheers alan.
