toll free rout to spain

can any one suggest a toll free yet rapid route down thru France to northern Spain? with say three possible days to travel.::help:

For me the toll road is always the quickest what you pay on the toll you save on the fuel

I too always use tolls as I can save a full day when driving to Spain, so there and back it's an extra two days' holiday. I can only go away for a month at a time because of business and social commitments so an extra two days in my desired location is worth the cost to me. I also find toll motorways relaxing and easy to drive. Stick it on cruise control and listen to music!

However, there is no way that the fuel saved pays for the tolls. I pay about €100 in tolls to northern Spain and I suspect that I may even use more fuel as you tend to drive at higher speeds and often the motorway isn't as direct.

So, to answer your question, any sat-nav can be programmed to avoid toll roads. You'll still be taken on toll-free motorways if you wish, or you can even tell it to avoid motorways altogether.

However, if you're not a sat-nav user the Michelin route planner is brilliant. You can ask it for toll-free routes that still include free motorways, or avoid motorways altogether. Have a look at it here ViaMichelin: route planner, maps, traffic news, weather, restaurants and hotel booking in the UK and abroad

You can even set the kind of vehicle and if you choose the car type that you think will give a similar mpg to your motorhome it will calculate the costs for you.

It depends on where in Spain you want to be ,that usually dictates your route, we go to Spain and Portugal often and don't use any toll roads, it usually takes me two weeks to get there ,but we love France so are happy to hang about with no real route planned, I have however started to use a couple of junctions of pay Motorway round Rouen in France as the route round is horrible I think.and that costs only a couple of Euros,or less I think.I did once decide to use a bit of Payage round St Jean de Luz once but that was a disaster , there were long hold ups and road works and it cost an arm and a leg,so won't do that again,if you are restricted by time I guess it may be worth using pay Motorway ,swings and roundabouts as to cost of tolls against any possible savings on Diesel, but as I have all the time in the World I will stay off them.i never do more than 300 miles a day on any journey and cringe when I hear of people getting to Spain from Calais in a day and a half, but horses for courses as they say.

Vindiboy, Rouen is easy peasy!
Just as you come down the hill into Rouen, there is a turn to the right which swings around goes left, keeping the river on your right.
It goes via Pont de Arche to Evreaux. Forgot the number as I know the turning well.
Thanks *****, I know that route but it drives me nuts, so that is where I stay on the Payage for a couple of junctions, or at least I did last time I came through.

When we drove down last month it only took us 3 days to get into Spain, setting the sat nav not to use toll roads. There was a large section of the route that had signs showing max speed for 3.5 ton to be 80 kph, this was from Angouleme down to where we turned off at Capbreton. The problem would be the wagons didn't seem to be bothered about the speed so you are forced to travel at their speed.
