Just installed 2 X 11kg twin system to replace my twin 45 ltr underfloor tanks. The underfloor ones were dangerously out of certification date and now the outfit in Thirsk that seems to have a monopoly on recertification makes it un economical for me.

Anyway got a twin 11kg system on Ebay all components less than 12 months old for a price that couldn't be resisted.

My question is. Is the high pressure side, hoses and connections designed for the pressure and gas to dissipate over time? It's the only part of the system that handles the liquid gas presumably not something that you want hanging about after filling. The reason I ask is that the connections on that side are on first appearance less leak proof than the low pressure side.

The connections that see liquid gas. Filler to cylinder and on to no 2. The hose to reg is definitely gas tight.

I would have bought that set but I can't fit 11s I am looking for a single 6kg cylinder, there was one down in Aldershot but no one to get it for me.

Just out of curiosity, how much was the quote to recertify your 2 x 45ltr underslung tanks?

Does this process involve their removal (for repair) and/or replacement/refitting with either new or recertified tanks?

"the outfit in Thirsk" was the only place I knew of when I fitted my first cylinder which was a used one in the self build, we combined a trip there to have it checked with our first trip away in it, I was not impressed by the company, their attitude to self builders or their staff, and certainly not their prices, I have never felt the need to recommend them to anyone.

We had a 2 x 11Kg Gaslow system installed from scratch for £848.73 on 13th July 2021 at Thirsk. This included a set of European Adapters, a hose for connecting a pre-filled Calor bottle ['in case you ever go to Northern Scotland'], the first LPG refill, and a CO Alarm, so probably £780 or so for the bare system. Not cheap, but the installation was thorough, the handover included a practice run on the refilling process [and time to video it for reminder purposes], and we have spent pennies short of £150 on some 110Kg of gas since installation [say 17 x 6Kg Calor bottles where we paid £26.75 for our one and only refill in May 2021]. We have recouped almost 50% of the installation cost to date, and, if health and other problems had not ruined our travel plans over the last 12 months, we would have recouped a lot more!

I'm afraid I didn't go as far as to get a quote from them. I do know that that the installation of them in 2011 was several hundred pounds less than their quote although using the same tanks. Total well into 4 figures then

I was planning 3 months of wilding in Morocco south of the High Atlas on the edge of the Sahara (bloody cold at night) and found a chap I was impressed with in Widnes who at the time was installing LPG conversions into petrol vehicles. He agreed to do a vapour takeoff for me. Did an excellent job, too bloody good in fact.

As it was to the rear of the back wheels he sprayed the tanks and all associated gear with thick pitch to protect them from debris thrown up fron the road chipping the anti rust coating. On top of that I had snagged the cage containing them getting off a ferry. I was told they wouldn't touch them. It would be a totally new installation.

Incidentally 90ltrs of gas didnt last the 3 months. Ended up using locally bought tanks of butane feed into the BBQ point with a dodgy "adjustable" regulator.

No brainer now to replace them with the less than 12mth old twin gaslow for <£400 fitted myself. Unlikely to be that far from an Autogas pump for so long in the future. If I do I've still got the BBQ point.😀
