Being a humble female I am not to good under the bonnet of a car or motorhome.

So my question is do I have my pride and joy serviced each year???

What about the cam belt do I need to have that changed.

my Gladys is a Peugeot Boxer 2005 12924 miles

to keep your pride and joys mechanicle things in the best of condition follow completly your hand books servicing intervals and get your tyres assed at every service they can deterioate without you noticing
you dont have to use main dealers
just use someone or a garage you are confident with

Polly prevention better than cure and all that !!!.

Worry not...I know another user here that will take care of you and between us get you a mini holiday PM me if of any interest.

For those wondering, I am not stating publically for two reasons.

1) The individual may be embarrassed
2) I am reacting without consultation to that individual ..but that is a minor issue ... I will stake my mortgage ( if Ihad one ) that all can be ship shape and Bristol fashion with no sharp intakes of breath.

I was once told by a mechanic, Change your oil and filter, Diesel fuel filter and Air filter once a year and the engine should last for years, as for timing belt find out if its a belt or chain. if its a chain no need to worry,If its a belt check the manufacturers recommendations. Thats my opinion of course but if anything goes wrong dont send me the bill.:D:D:D:D

As your hand book will show, low mileage DOESN'T mean less servicing, but you shouldn't have a lot of expence, if your engine uses synthetic oil that will be your biggest expence at £30 - £40 a gallon, oil filter is only a fiver, air filter around £15 and the fuel filter only needs replacing every other year plus about two hours labour which at a main dealer could be £80/hr or a small independant will only be around £25-£35/hr.

So a worst case will be around £250 and best about £120 - hope that helps.

One of the Dutch CEO's of Shell was sacked when he admitted he never did an oil change - he only levelled it up
It left me with a major ?
Don't worry Polly, when the wheels keep on going around, let them. You can never say beforehand what will causing trouble.
Only check there's enough oil, cooling water, the brakes are OK, and your tyres are not gone too far , and check if you have a problem with steering, lights etc ...
Don't throw your money away to nitwits who understand nothing but £;)

Number 1 son as been round and I asked him this question and he said I musn't skimp and not have the service.
I have a little garage who I hope have not been ripping me off so to speak (don't think so)
I will book her in for march

As for cambelt my handbook says refer to main dealer. I will give them a call but not my Gladys.

I will also have to have break pads changed as they advised after MOT

Money Money Money well its for enjoying
well if I don't keep Gladys tiptop I may not have her to enjoy:confused::confused:

Trust your little garage Polly, and don't worry anymore

Hi Polly,
If your pride and joy is a diesel 2ltr, 2.2ltr, or a 2.8ltr then peugeot recommend the timing belt is changed at 72000 miles or 10 years .
As for the oil and filter and fuel filter i would change them once a year, as for your air filter change it only when needed by a visual inspection.
enjoy your wilding
regards
keith

Get all your filters & oil and we will do it at Leek or Hayfield, it will only cost you a proper bottle of malt.

polly have you ever been shown and had the engine etc explained to you and what to check for and how often?if not , i would take up the peoples offer and get the bits for your van and let them show you how to do these things at the said meet:):) as for the cambelt if thats whats fitted i would get it changed regardless of what the book rec. at around 50/60k or 7/8yrs which ever comes first, usually very expensive if they break! only my opinion but my trucks at 160k.;)

can i suggest if non of you have workshop manuals to look on ebay and purchase a dealer workshop dvd @£2/3, in there you will find tonnes of info bout your vehicles and whats checked/replaced at services, then it will give you a better idea of the things needed to be done.also they are well drawn and explained so you may learn a few simple things too;)

I have to say it is important to find a dealer you trust to do the service for you.
Changing plugs, oil and all filters is easy enough to do yourself if your body allows you to.Some of the unscrupulous dealers that do these services dont actually change said parts if they think they can get away with it,just make sure you pay for what you get.

Forever the optimist!!!!

I always mark the filters with a scratch before it goes in, and check it when it comes back so far never caught them doing that, I dont trust mechanics, But since I found out the local college do all this i have used them. Air filter, oil and filter and fuel filter changed two days ago £70-00 all in for a 2.5td. Same ones that did my N/S driveshaft last year, that was only £100-00 fitted. Give your local college a ring its worth a phonecall to see.:D:D:D
