Hello, we went away to a little wild spot and the public toilets were closed in the morning due to maintenance. Had to buy two coffees for £6! to use the loo.

We have decided it’s time to buy a little loo. We are a vwt6 and think something like this would work well https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thetford-P...hetford+porta+potti+345&qid=1661104417&sr=8-1

Thing is we don’t want to use chemicals. Has anyone else found a good workaround to put the “goods” into a compostable bag and into the bin. Or down lav once home?

Cheers

Thats a caravan boat or camper loo, just put a spoonful of bio wash powder in it and do the scooby doos.

I use a Thetford in my T4. I put soap powder in it. It doesn't really stop the smell when you lift the lid but that doesn't bother me. It doesn't smell with the lid down. I put all paper in the bin and use public loos when possible. That way it can last 5 days as it has a larger receptacle than the one in the photo.
I made a nice Fabric cover for it so it looks like a seat.

I took out the chemical toilet from my camper last year and I’ve been using what’s described as a composting toilet made by

It’s basically a wooden box with a toilet seat with lid and a separator which sends the wee into a large plastic container and the poo into a compostable bag. You can tip the wee down a drain and put the poo in a dog poo bin or take it home for your compost heap. No chemicals and no hassle.

Hello oxocube, when we go on cruises in our Thames camping Skiff(photo attached!!) we use a plastic potty and put it inside a compostable bag, turned inside out, then turn bag over potty and you've got it all in the bag, as they say. If in the middle of nowhere, you can drain liquid and keep the solid for a suitable place. You then have a clean potty and store the bags in it, and it really takes up very little space.

Did you forget to attach a photo' of the skiff? I would love to see it.

I intend fitting one of these...

As soon as I can work out how the damn Thetford comes out...

Used with wooden pellet cat litter and compostable bags...
That can be disposed of in dog poo bins OR double bagged into waste bins...

It should prove to be easier to deal with when Wilding and a lot more pleasant to use...
As well as saving quite a surprising amount of water flushing wise.

Dumped cassette loo a good few months ago (after long thread here) and went for a wet/dry separator loo. By far the best improvement I've made to van.

I went for the strumpet dumpet one purely because of size. The Simploo one looks a better option though.

Do people really compost their own shqt at home 💩.
I used to do some work at a sewerage treatment plants and the processes of heating, stirring, pasteurizing the sludge were immense to fully kill all the bugs.

I thought it very amusing that the talk of Poo prompted members to come out of the (water) closet and make a post. They have been members for many years and rarely posted before.

It proves that Poo brings us together. :ROFLMAO:

Thetford Porta Potti 345 - yes, that would be perfect for you. It's what I had in my Autosleeper Trooper. I made a cover with a cushion that went over it and it became an extra seat when not in use for the intended purpose.

I use washing liquid or pods/tablets. No smell as it is sealed when not in use. I don't like the blue stuff and found that the ecological green stuff doesn't perform as well as washing liquid. Empty at any CD point, even those where chemicals are not allowed because they are septic tanks or cess pits.

If you wanted to, you could pop a bag in when doing a no. 2 to save it going into the tank and dispose of it separately - I believe some people do that.
