To Leak or Not To Leak…..

We were filling up with water after the Motorhome had been sitting for about 6 weeks as winterised as it ever is, when I noticed water slowly dripping in one of the external cupboards. It happened when I was running the kitchen tap to draw water into the hot water boiler. The tap may have been set halfway between hot/cold so I may have been running both. When I stopped running the water the drip stopped and started again when I ran the water. I had a quick look to see it I could find the source of the leak but it’s somewhere in the bowels of the double floor and I couldn’t see anything.

We had to set off on our trip but I thought I would have a better look once we were at our destination. Since then I haven’t been able to recreate the leak. I’ve tried just pouring water down the drain, running just the cold water and running just the hot water but nothing. Christine is now using the sinks as per normal and still no drip. That’s been three days.

I just wandered if anybody had come across this before. I have the van booked in to the dealer to get them to have a look at it next Wednesday but there is no point if they can see where the leak is. I am also trading the van in early May, so I’d like to get it fixed before that, of possible. I’m wandering if this is a known thing and what the chances are of it being a one off. The van is over 8 years old now and things are beginning to go a bit wonky.

Didn’t think of condesation Rob. That would be good if it was. I did wonder if by putting on heating, heating up the water in boiler resulting in pipes being heated and perhaps expanding, a small crack mouth be closed. But that maybe a theory too far.

Yeah. It would be great if that was the case. I guess only time will tell.

If it has stopped don't worry about it. The dealer will be unable to advise if it's not leaking so I wouldn't bother if I were you.

My guess is a push fit connector was slightly loose and has reseated, or maybe higher temperatures have made it seal better.

Thanks for replying. I’m not worried about it as such, I suppose I’m trying to find out whether this is quite common and get a feel for whether there’s a good chance that the leak will not reoccur for a few months at least. Which even as I write this I realise that it’s impossible to say.

Hard to believe the Burstner is 8+ yo, if I remember correctly, your first meet with MH was at the wheel?

I guess it’s all I can do Terry. Yeah. Pretty sure the unvailing of the Silver Machine was at the Wheel. It’s sad to see it go but it’s finally time…..

Gosh, if yours is a bit wonky after 8 years imagine mine at 30 years!!!

Thanks everybody for your responses. We’re home now and this morning I tried to recreate all the conditions that existed when the leak first appeared ….still no leak so we’ve decided to call it “divine intervention” as Terry suggests. I’ve cancelled the booking with the dealer because as Canalsman points out there’s not lot they can do if there is no leak. Thanks again.

This might be a possible cause. I had a leak dropping water when running hot water a couple of weeks ago. This was the culprit, the hot water manifold which had distorted by frost. Could be that yours has done the same trick but reset itself when it got warmed up and a bit of vibration from travelling.
