An observation made in a strongly contested debate about cyclists for humorous purposes has unwittingly offended some members.
May I just say I support and honour the space cyclists need when on the road.
Having been one (still have my very first bicycle), and a motorcyclist, that follows The Giro, The Tours, The Vuelta and indoor competitive cycling events in person the debate of uK cycling rules is followed with interest.
Seeing white painted bicycles parked at locations is emotive and provides a reminder to how vulnerable they are.

I shall still make comments that will tease and promote hard hat wearing as it is part of life's colour.
Respect to all.

Safety is difficult, as a young boy often cycled to school, over 12 miles, and found it not a problem as used back country type roads in the main.
Had many an injury as a child with some severe repairs needed at times, part of youth being invincible attitude.
Always remember kicking the front mudguard as it had become distorted, put foot through wheel, over the handlebars I went, face planted the road. Not a pretty sight, trip to A&E via a bus, to get patched up.
Today, so much more traffic, and I feel young drivers who have never cycled have lack of concern for cyclists as little experience of consequences.
Off road cycling I enjoyed much more. Knees at moment do not encourage this.

I just think in todays traffic they have no place as for their own good, I take my mountain bike off road and have not ridden my racer for 30 years on roads.

I wouldn't sweat it chap....

There are cyclists that ride like complete bell ends with little regard for other road users, the same as there are vehicle drivers that do the same (even the supposed 'Knights of the road and all round pillars of society LGV drivers)
Saints and sinners in all....
Sadly the overall standard of road manners in this country is incredibly poor with plenty that use their chosen vehicle as a weapon.
I TRY to be as courtious and considerate as possible, no matter whether I'm in the car/work van/motorhome OR on my E-bike.

Shame others often don't do the same...

Anyone who wants to live on the edge would only ride a bike on our small roads with 40 ton trucks whizzing past within inches.

Agree Mistericeman,
Sadly, manners and attentiveness have been eroded over the past few decades.
Noticeable for me also is the graffiti now seen everywhere it seems.
Some is quite good, and interesting, a lot not so.
I am amused by those seen on trains that actually have a style and oddly blend in, a lot do not.
How do they afford the paint cans is surprising, also how do they have the time - surely on media most hours.
