I have a Talbot Express 2-5TD 1992. And was sat here wondering the what ifs like I do, Can anyone tell me if I have a timing belt or timing chain on my MH. If its a belt I will get it changed as I have had the van two years now. :):)

i would get your belt changed assap if you dont know when it was last changed its better to be safe than costly!!

God that was a great quote...i think i will make note of that one.......;):rolleyes:

timing belt.

Thanks for the replies guys.
How much should I expect to pay for this lickle job????:D:D

I got quoted £250 for belt, pulleys & 4 hours labour. (Vauxhall Movano).

Thanks for that Pete. Merry chipma by the way, hope work improves for ya in the new year, If not AJ might be looking for a Chaufeur.

If the belts and paraphenalia come to £50, at £50 per hour lavbour tis cheap as chips in Leeds.

I bet your quote isnt from |Evans Halshaw on Hunslet Road

Channa

LEEDS thats no damn good I'm in Blackburn:):):) I will let you all know what the local college charge as thats where I got the driveshaft done and it only cost £100-00. all in.TightArse me you know.;)

Some general advise I was given by my mechanic.

Whilst getting the timing belt changed make sure they check the powersteering pullys and aircon belts (if fitted) they may as well change them whilst they are in the area as with most vehicles they have to remove them to get to the timing belt anyway.

In this case it may not be that you have powersteering or aircon but its worth mentioning

It also depends on the mileage, if you need it changing or not.

And engines vary too. With some a valve can hit the top of a cylinder and bend the valve, whereas with others the belt fails and that's all that happens. But I think diesels are generally bad for this because of the high compression.

Ive paid £130 for a ford to £290 for a Mitsubitsi, but get the full kit as a new belt is useless if the pulley breaks, and a broken belt/pulley usually = new engine, or at least a lot of top end damage.

For Talbot 2.5D ( inc turbo ), it's 80,000 miles or five years, whichever comes first.

That may mean changing a belt on an engine with only, say, 30,000 miles on the clock, but with standing around over that time it will have started to perish due to it's age.

It's best to get the full kit, which includes I think, pulleys and the injector pump timing belt as well. You might as well get it all done while it's there then you won't have to worry for a long time.

Whatever you're quoted for the job will be a lot cheaper than the 1,000's it will cost for a new engine if you do break a cambelt!!!!

Ok, you lot have got me paranoid now, how do I get it there without driving, Theres nothing wrong with it yet but what if it goes before I get the 3 miles to the garage.:mad:.Nah only kidding thanks for the info I will get it all done in the new year.

Merry Chipma to all
