Make sure that your sim allows you to use it abroad. I assumed mine did - its b...... blocked - only use in UK. I'm now in France. "No services". can't use 333 for help. I have emailed them - allow up to 5 working days pffffttttt for them to email back.:mad2:

I stupidly assumed (going againt my own mantra "assume nothing" that they all worked unless data roaming turned off.

I know the feeling!! Forgot to enable my TalkTalk phone for roaming, and couldn't do it once we were abroad. Fortuantely, I had a Lebara SIM, and could keep in touch through Face Book.

I didn't realise that was happening. Is it the three feel at home sim you have?

Feel at home just means whatever talk/text/data bundle you have here is available to you in other countries.

The OP has the problem that roaming wasn't enabled before leaving the UK. Why it's not on my default now is anyone's guess...

Have you tried

Here are some important contact details for you when you're abroad:

•call us on: +44 7782 333 333 (standard roaming rates apply*)

Contacting us when you're abroad. - Using your device abroad - Roaming & international - Support - Three

Had the same problem this year in Ireland I had only just started a 3 sim only contract and rang them 3 weeks into my contract that I was going to Ireland they told me because I had not been on a month ring them after 1st month. Told them I would be away they said no problem just ring from Ireland. Lie my sim would not register on any network.

I checked mine was enabled before I left the UK it was and is working fine on PSYG after only having it 10 days prior to arriving in France

I just read this on 3's website it should help anyone who've left it late with registering their 3 sim

Sim-only contract customers must be with Three for 30 days before they can use Feel at Home. However if you're not already a customer and are planning on travelling soon, there's a neat trick: you can pick up a pay-as-you-go Sim, buy an add-on with an allowance and then access free roaming abroad immediately.

I'm using a 3 payg sim in France on their "Feel at Home" scheme. I just buy a 50p daily data add on and it gives at least 100Mb.. I've had the sim several months and bought a £20 top up which has barely been touched. If you don't buy the data add on it will charge you 10p per Mb.

I'm confused.. I though that if you had a 3 dongle it was supposed to work in France full stop. We've had a 3 dongle for 4 years now and took it to France for the first time last month. Not completely unsurprisingly it didn't work over there. I had tried to call 3 before we left but gave up after just constantly getting through to automated messages asking if I wanted to top up etc.

We have a 3 Mi-Fi unit and use the Preloaded 1GB / 30Days Data Sims.

We buy separate 1GB Sims ( when on offer ) instead of topping up the same card as it works out cheaper.

Used it for the first time in France the other month and it worked a treat wherever we was located.

We used it every day for 17 days including keeping the wifes websites in order and we still only used 497mb out of the 1GB available.

I`ve now gone over to 3 with my phone as well so i`ll see how that shapes up over there when we go next April / May.

feel at home only works in certain countries and then for messages to the uk ; france is ok but spain/portugal is normal roaming charges

You can use any of your contract tariffs, including data, in France, Austria and Italy at the moment, but 3 seems a bit weak on the Eastern side of France from my experience running down to Monaco.

Yes all countries are listed on their web site

but 3 seems a bit weak on the Eastern side of France from my experience running down to Monaco.

Traveled right down thru the Alp's from Geneva to Menton and didn't have any problems with 3's signal although only turned phone on for a hour in the evenings to receive texts and email and occasional phone call

Hi Jenny,

Think yourself lucky,I have been topping the wifes phone at £30 a time on o2 with it's roaming of £1,95 a day.Must have spent a £100 pounds or more in the last three months,But she's worth it.
