Thought for the day

I've got one of those calendar desk pads where you rip off a page a day which has the date on it together with a "thought for the day" - some of them are rubbish, but some are quite good.

Today's thought for the day is :

Common sense is instinct. Enough of it is genius.

Common sense is an Oxymoron i.e. It ain't common look around you, its very rare.

I think most people have common sense, so it is common.

The problem is, that you only tend to notice when there is a lack of it displayed, thus continually disabusing yourself of the concept :lol-053:

i might be common but i certainly don't disabuse myself! [not in company anyway]

I thought Oxymoron was a cream to get rid of Acne.

Well, you learn something new every day. ;)

I have a similar type of calendar, but mine has a very "artistic" pin-up girl on each tear-off page. I haven't noticed yet if it has any "thought for today" type mottos on it! :rolleyes2:

Surely if one is continually disabusing oneself of the concept, then it is only because the lack of it.

No, cos most people are still using it in the background, it's just not noticed.

The problem is that most people want instant results or gratification now that they have a better standard of living...proof of this is credit card debt....so it carries over into other things....a sudden lane change on impulse....a purchase because they 'thought' they had more money this month but forgot to pay 'X'.....and into other impulsive actions where simply stopping for a moment and considering what might go wrong or what might happen as a result of....they tear on and then when it goes pear shaped wonder why they didn't look before they leaped.....I'm not sure it's lack of common sense....but more a lack of caution.....although I suppose that could in itself be grounds for indicating a lack of common sense..lol!

The Darwin Awards are a very good example....most of it is impulsive behaviour or bad tempered behaviour...like the idiot in a disabled electric buggy in South Korea ramming the door lift doors because they closed on him and tumbling down the lift shaft buggy and all (YouTube CCTV camera).

This is the link to the DA page which also has the video - WARNING - this guy dies in the video after he disappears from view so if you are easily upset DON'T
view. http://darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin2010-08.html

Old Bricklayers never die... they just throw in the trowel.

Today's thought for the day (kind of appropriate for this forum in several ways) :

Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go (TS Elliot)

Seneca said the same thing 2,000 years earlier.

“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare, that they are difficult.”

Seneca
