I cannot afford my rent! I am a Domestic cleaner and Dog Trainer ( used to be a Veterinary nurse but industry is too toxic now )
Do people find it hard to get work if the address you have is not in the area? My mums lives further south. Is there discrimination for people who live permanently in a caravan?
Hello everyone btw 🤗

Hi and welcome Joanne. We are primarily motorhomers on here but there are a fair few full timers on here and I am sure some of them work so they may well be able to answer your questions. Not having a permanent address is an issue for many I know.

Are you thinking of a static caravan (one that never moves) or one that you can tow behind a car?

Very different things with very different financial demands.

As @barryd says we are primarily a group for people who have a van like vehicle with a living space in the back.
These vehicles are based on anything from a small transit to a full size double decker bus.
They are called motor homes / motor caravans / camper vans / Recreational Vehicles.
Most of us have a fixed address and use our vehicles for breaks.
A few of us have no bricks and mortar base and live in the vehicle 365 days a year. These individuals are referred as "full timers".
You may find more information from groups dedicated to "full timers"

What ever you decide, good luck and enjoy you new life.

Hi Joanne, discrimination in this country is rife no matter what vehicle you own, what sort of house you live in, which school you went to, what cultural background you have etc etc.

An important question to address is where you intend to keep and sleep in the caravan. If you intend to 'wild camp' in it that could be problematic regarding close neighbours and or idiots who get a kick out of frightening people.

There are various sites such as pubs, fishing lakes and even farms that allow caravans & mh's to stay pretty much permanently for as little as £10 per night. If you can give us a clue as to which area you prefer to stay in, then we could maybe find one of the cheaper sites for you.

I have a site to go to, that's not my problem. Being able to pay for it by cleaning for a small company is my issue. I am self employed and have my own business but I need to be able to have regular work.

Where ever it is and whatever the business is (cleaning?) I would start getting on the local facebook groups maybe. Offices etc all need cleaners I would think. If that is what you are doing. I have seen newcomers tout for stuff like that on my own local social media groups and they are generally well received.

He speaks with no forked tongue.
Good luck.

My question is: Does anyone know if employers reject people who live in a caravan because they are basically NFA ?

Welcome to the forum. If on a permanent residential site, there should be an address you can use. If it is a holiday site where you are staying full-time ( against the site licence but it's up to owners, lots do) then an address is more problematic unless you have a good friend who will let you use theirs and register on electoral role from there. Credit checks like a fixed address. Driving licence and banks also need an address.

Regarding finding work, I’d try the local https://nextdoor.com/?lang=en. Our local one always has posts regarding domestic work…..

I don't see an issue if it's what's known as a large static caravan on a site, sometimes known as mobile homes, but they never go anywhere! If a touring caravan parked on a mixed caravan site, full time if allowed by the site's licence, then the pitch may have a number so ur address could be say nr 6 at that site, many of which don't have "caravan" in the address.
If ur in an area where rent for a single bed flat is £1000 pcm there could be potential savings. Good luck with ur idea.
