Thetford Forrest Camping

Hi

Not strictly wild camping question.

What is the name of the campsite in Thetford Forrest where you can pitch up in the woods in bays. It also has a large grass area.

Its near Dower House as I recall

Could it be Puddledock Farm? Never been there ourselves, but our neighbours go regularly and rate it quite highly.

Regards Rog

I know the one you mean, we spent new years eve there once. Had no bathrooms or toilets, but chemical disposal points were dotted around the place.

It was a "Camping in the Forest" site, but it doesn't show up any more so I guess it has either closed, or is being run by someone else now.

What about Dower House Touring Park at East Harling, could that be the one?

Regards Rog.

It's not Dower House, it's

I live just down the road at East Harling

Dower House is pretty much next to it, but much more commercialised with a pool clubhouse etc
Thorpe woodlands doesn't have any facilities other than water and waste disposal if my memory serves me, but it's got huge pitches in the forest. We drove through once just to have a look and it was lovely. I think it was £10 then but we are talking about a few years ago.

If you need any further info let me know. There are also a couple of spaces on that road that you could wild camp easily. It's a very quiet road adjacent to the A1066. There are excellent cycle routes and walks right from your van and 2 good pubs in E Harling, chippy, Chinese and shop. :)

On further investigation it looks like Thorpe woodlands is now closed as a campsite

Sorry about that- we drive by it most days but I didn't realise it was no longer a campsite, it's now an adventure centre! *confused*

As I said before there are places you could wild down that stretch of road

wouldn't bother with any of them. You have the whole forest to use, hundreds of places not on the POI's. I live in the middle of the forest and am amazed at how little of the forest is used. Just stay away from the thetford to munford Road as all the areas along there are notorious gay and swinging places. Also try the Ram in Brandon if you want beer etc.

If I remember rightly ( it was 20 years ago ) there was always an adventure centre incorporated in this campsite which I believe was run by a group of north London councils or education authorities, if you look on google satellite you can see it as it was with caravans pitched in the field and the occasion white patch in the woods and other activity around the house and field behind.
I remember there used to be a kiosk that sold Belgium ice cream and a fish and chip van used to stop there
