The rule of the Wave??

Hi Folks

New to this camper van lark and own an old 21yr old Merlin which I love. Having never owned a van before I am learning the rules of campervan etiquette not least this waving to each other(sorry if this topic has been posted before), which is a fine activity.

Now I began as a curious 'why do people keep waving at me' thinking bits of the van must be falling off, then became slightly more paranoid thinking 'I don't know these people but I must look like someone they all know'? then I thought I'd fight fire with fire and just waved at everything swaying trees, bemused police, lorry drivers and occasional campervans.

That doesn't work because I've now realised that there are certain campers that don't seem to wave back! There could be a number of reasons for this;

Realised my van had gone past and it was too late to return my wave
didn't see my van at all
sme folk maybe own a new (less than 3yrs old) posh van and it would ruin their credibility to be seen waving at some old dog driving a van that's younger than their grown up children
folk waved but forgot about the steering wheel and left the M6 via a field

Anyway, apologies for inane drivel but if someone out there knows the wave rule tell me if I'm using the wrong action.

Happy travelling oh and the worst offical camping site I've ever been to is the Europa Park in Woolacombe North Devon. Run by a moron (obsessed wth money and litte else) serviced by imbeciles (breakfast any 8 items, but I only want egg on toast, you can't have that it's only three items)and more expensive than a good hotel. Just my own view.
