The Great North Run

Hi folks
I'm new to this and i'm after advice already!!
Me and the better half are taking part in the great north run this september. Would appreciate any info/advice on places to camp (wild or on a site) somewhere near the finish which is south shields?

Hi and welcome Michael.

The best person to speak to would have been lenny (as he lives in South Shields). Unfortunately, he does not use this site now.

As far as I know, there are no wilding spots or sites in S. Shields.

I believe that there is a bus service to take your kit to the finish line and you ride back to Newcastle in them. If that is the case then there is a 5 van CL or CS at Blaydon Rugby Club. The problem with that site is that they also hold a big boot sale on Sundays. There are also Park and Rides where you could leave your vehicle for the duration of the race. That might give you more options.

Contact South Tyneside Council, they organise a camping field in Bents Park (400 metres from the finish). Its about £8 per unit per nite, open friday through sunday nite, loos and water but no showers. Stay there every year.
