Temperature gauge

Hi, I have a problem with the temp gauge on my 2000, fiat Ducato 2.8 JTD Motor Home. I went to start the engine today only to find the needle jumping about all over the place. I checked the water levels, but could find nothing. After a while it settled back down to where it should be. Does anybody know what may have caused this to happen??

Sorry, I have only found this site today. I was unaware of the search system. I have followed the link and now have the answer I was looking for. I will know next time.
