Hi, As mentioned previously, the last Murvi, Fiat 2.8 TD, returned 35.2 mpg over 10 years 1999 - 2009 & 116,000 miles. This included the Eberspacher heating sytem which ran using diesel from the Vehicles tank. The new Murvi, Fiat 2.3 TD, Jan 2009 currently has 17,000 on the clock & is returning around 30mpg including the Webasto heating system. Things will gradually improve as the miles goes up & the engine runs in.

My 4 litre Mercedes non turbo running at 5 tonnes plus, achieves 27.4 mpg but the greater part of my mileage is on the Spanish Autovias in the relatively quiet winter season, so not too much in the way of start stop conditions.
Keeping my speed to a sensible level helps of course.

In my experience some people will not give you accurate figures partly because they don't know how to do it properly or possibly because they have one good run, they wrongly think those figures are correct.
I could say that I get around 34mpg out of my 2.8JTD loaded at 3500kg or over;) as I did from Staffordshire to Dover on all motorway and the roads were running pretty good:cool: I could say only 21 mpg as I did on one bad run:eek:
But that would not be the full story:eek:
On my recent 2300mile trip to France with all sorts of roads and all non paege and quite a lot of stop start in towns, we averaged 28mpg
Last year we averaged 27mpg for our summer holidays so we are pretty consistent.
My average mpg now is confirmed at 28mpg and I am very happy at the weight that we run.

*****, you are correct of course, my mpg "average" is over a logged 95000 miles mixed conditions 20% English city miles, 80% French RN roads Spanish Autovias and Moroccan roads etc this gives my mpg some meaningful context.

Iveco 35c18 3.0L

C Class - 7.3m Overcab Coach-built GVW 4 Tones

Solo
70+Mph best 18 mph Worst 16 mpg
55-60 mph Best 23 mph Worst 18 mpg

With 2 Tone Box Trailer (GTW 6 Tones)
70+mph Best 16 Worst 13 mpg
55-60 mph Best 20 Worst 17

These are before the Tunit Box was fitted ... which is giving me 10% better returns ...

over 55,000 miles the trip computer shows 19 mpg as my overall average ... probably 35,000 of that was with the trailer.

Hymer 514 SL. Fiat 3 litre.Averaged 27.8 over 1500miles in France.No motorways. Best 30.6 at steady 50/60 over 80 miles.Drops to about 25 near 70mph. Fantastic engine.

over the last 8 months since owning this 25 year old 2.4 straight mercedes diesel, fully laden most of the time including full fuel and water tanks we average around 23 mpg - not too bad for its age, but VERY slow up hills

Merc 100 D Karmann body 1992 doing exactly the same (up and down depending on where and how fast). She's outside now waiting to be filled following our first tow of the Smart Car. We have driven back from Portugal in July and averaged 22mpg but when we went out in March we did Santander to Algoz in one hit, as fast as poss. and still averaged just over 20. I don't like to think about it really 'cos it costs a fortune :D:D

you lucky lot !

Hmm:eek:

Well, you did ask didn't you  About 16mpg around town and a bit over 20mpg on a run:eek::eek::eek: and that's on petrol:eek:

However, I could probably outdrag all of you, if only I could keep it in a straight line :D

5.9L 250bhp V8 Auto in a van conversion (about the size of a LWB Ducato). It has a potential GWV of 4.100 Kgs, though runs nowhere near that limit

This thread would be more interesting if the owners could state if manual or auto.

M.p.g.

I'm running a 3 year old Adria Izola on a Renault Master base - dci 120 power unit with a 6 speed switchable automatic box.
Most of our mileage (80%) is in/around Snowdonia and North/West Wales - i.e. a steady paddle of 45 to 55 mph, up hill and down dale.
The vehicle is fitted with a handy gadget (as standard) to operate the cruise control, and gives a constantly updating record of M.P.G., distance left in tank before re-fuelling needed etc.
Our average M.P.G. is 27.7, with a personal best trip of 31.2, during a trip to East Anglia last year.
Hope this is of use - I would be very interested in other peoples figures in similar rigs. :)

Running a 5 yr old Peugeot Sarasota, 2.8JTD, 7.4m long 6 berth, overcab bed motorhome I was getting an average of 25mpg, then the wife got behind the wheel, and after a long motorway stint of her 70 to 80mph driving we went down to 22mpg:eek:
I use cruise control, but if it is a long downhill section, I switch off 'cruise' and allow the motor to run down the hill.;)
