Anyone tried taking the cat camping with them?

Our cat thinks he's a dog, he also loves being in the van, as soon as he hears one of the doors open he materialises inside. Carried him out of it to lock it up earlier, came back and he was on the roof meowing at the roof-light.

Had him inside it when I've been working on it, even with the engine running. I actually got worried he might jump on the engine whilst it was running.

Our lass isn't keen on the idea but I quite fancy popping somewhere local for the day (and possibly the night) out of curiosity. Though not sure whether he'll just wonder off or not.

Never done it personally but seen it done quite a few times.
All the cats I have seen seemed very laid back in character though.
Even saw one in a harness and lead taken for a walk.

..

Meg loves to chase them especially if they are tethered by a lead ..

..

Seen a few on Spanish Campsites .. Some of them stand their ground and can be quite.vicious

If the cat is use to the vehicle & is generally ok when in a Carry Box While On The move, Then consider a training it on a cat harness & do a short local trip for a Night !
I had Two cats on my boat while I Traveled BLINKING NIGHTMARE at times, Even done a ‘Cat Overboard Manover off of The Essex coast on one occasion.
But on the whole ok ish

pretty sure Whitevanwoman had at least one . it's not uncommon . i know a woman travelling with 2 pigs and a Dutch mate had 6 chickens and 4 kids in his van

I like cats, I like kids. Could never manage a whole one. It's good to take some fresh meat along. Cats go well with a curry sauce I'm told.

I'll get me coat. :cool1:

Out last weekend at Yellocraig and van pulled in next to us. 4 wee dogs and 2 cats.....all tethered on leads. Glad my 3 dogs didn't spot them as it could have ended badly:lol-053:

My white cat travels round to school in van for kids the odd time sitting on the dash board.

First time I saw one was walking past an 'A' class, sat in the front window. I had a double take moment.
The cat, a Siamese, had a look of superiority about it, probably knew how to use a cassette toilet too.

When I was a kid, we always took the cat away in the van. Weekends and longer trips to Scotland. Cat would often come for walks with us. Remember once took her for a evening walk, blooming thing buggered off somewhere, anyway she was back at the van the next morning banging on roof light. Always came running back when the old man started engine too.

We had a cat a few years ago who loved to ride in the car quite happy liked to ride in the back window or on wifes lap. When touring we,ve seen many cats happily walking on leads one uk van in portugal last year had a cat flap and his cat came and went as it wanted

Well jess did take the cat penny had a cat with here and saw a member incornwall with a wwhite cat in their van

My Cat is the same when it comes to wanting to be in the van. Waits at the door to be let in to spend the day in it.
The engine running makes her slightly nervous but moving off - she wants OUT! When she goes to the VET (5 mile trip) it is sorry meewing and a little bit of moulting so don't think she would like a road trip :( (although one time we were heading away, about to turn into the road and wondered where the cat was.... turned round and she was just sitting on the glass hob top).

If I got another cat I would drive around with it frequently to get it used to the movement. But if I took it away, I think would have to be on a lead/harness as be too scared it would wander away and not come back for ages (at all!)

first time we went to rutland...i think the folk in next van had a cat with them.....would never have taken cats myself incase they got lost.........a friend has moved house 4 time with cats no bother....my daughter moved once and cat took off never to e seen again...leaving us all devistated....

I frequently travel with my cat (female 2 yrs old) She loves it and is quite disappointed when we return home. I am even thinking of fitting a cat flap in the rear door.

We meet a couple in Gibraltar who had three cats and a dog onboard their yacht. While they were in harbou r they had a piece of thick orange netting like you used to see round road works hanging over the side for the odd mistake that resulted in a swim. All the cats looked happy and very clean so I suppose they had all been swimming. The dog was a rescue from some distant land with only three legs but he still managed to hop on and off.

I enjoy watching quite a few of the US "vanlife" type youtubers and many of them travel with cats, including a couple of them who have moved onto "Water RVs".
And I am surprised how well the cats seem to not be fazed by travelling (maybe American cats are different? :lol-053: ) - but one of them is now sans cat as it went off and was not seen again (but I guess the same happens to housecats as well enough times - I've had a cat disappear on me :( )

Our Ted does

Re cats & motorhoming.

Our old cat Claude (died aged 19) and replacement Ted 4 yrs old motorhome with us.

No problems, he travels in a box when moving, wears a harness and has a poo palace in the bathroom for nightimes. I walk him on a lead, (trained him to thus since 6 mths), late at night when all the dogs have been walked....honest Officer! We used to allow Claude, once he was older to ride of the seat behind the driver, but still on a lead. We were used to seeing HGV drivers looking at us as the passed, as I'm sure Claude, who liked lorries, was waving to them!

Ted will be with us whilst we support a John O Groats to Lands End charity ride in a few weeks. We only use dried cat foid in the van & provide plenty of water. Cat litter from Home Bargins is good for keeping the smell under control.

Never had a problem in nearly 10 yrs of motorhoming with cats. 20180104_230324.jpg

..... I am even thinking of fitting a cat flap in the rear door.

A few years ago the caravan on the next pitch had a cat flap in the door.

Spoke to the owners and this was their 3rd caravaning cat and 5th van with a flap.

Cat came and went as it pleased and always showed up when they started packing to leave site.

Our cat will not even go in MoHo when it is parked on the drive, she likes her house and doesn't see a reason to leave it.

One thought, if fitting a cat flap to MoHo, make sure it is locked before travel!

Anyone taking a cat in a MoHo needs on of these
