Taghazout beach Morocco

Bambi 2

Guest
Well we had a great time for one week on Taghazout beach, we paid 20 dh a night to a guardian, we had a lot of fun with the vendors, then on friday the police and army arrived, we all decided that we were not going to leave, but then with the threat of a wopping great fine moved us all, :scared:
We have now heard that they have bulldozed trenches so you cannot get on to the beach, but they have not moved on the free campers who are parked right by the camp site, maybe because the camp site is full. bamby 2

hi .heard some had been moved .dave and john told me .yet today had a tx from roy and anne they are backon the beach so they said. they had been away for a week or so and just went back they thought it was a bit quiet. seems like playing games to me. they kept trying to get stroppy last year. i threatened to write to the king again . had a meeting with the mayor in banana village or cahid if you need is proper title and he let us stay. we had trouble there a few years ago .with the last chid . he lost. thats why they changed him . he was taking rent off the locals as guardians . but the authority doesnt own the land so he couldnt rent it. he got sacked . we ended up with self security letters in tiznit province . allowed us to park in various places and get left alone .just show the letter and the police and army went away.
you could try having a word with sciede the head police man in taga . tell him alibaba said its ok . he might let you stay just for a bit of peace .ha ha .
all part of the fun, could go up to the camel parking on the paradise valley road . i,m told lots are street parking in agadir now and being left alone .
have fun catch you again one day . cheers alan

Hi there Alan -

Don't know if this will work to respond to such an old and dusty thread.

You helped me out with some questions a couple weeks back. Well I still haven't decided on the camper & now I come across this thread about you & Taghazout, and years of trips there, and surfing!

Well this is why I want that camper! I was over there a couple years back, ran in with this Irish lads down, one of them down in his lovely home job crafter van, his sweet irish setter mix along for the ride. filled me with ideas & thoughts since then. now i'm back in europe with a girlfriend and want to make that trip down myself.

But then I come across these posts, saying that the police & army are hassling the campers. Such a shame i remember just an endless stretch of beach between taghazout and banana point.

Its been my dream to get a camper, live just there near the walk down from the bluff to the banana point beach. and have a surf before all the mobs go.

Or to pull into Immousuane when the conditions are right, pull out the longboard and go for a paddle. (and a looong paddle back if i remember right)

Or to go and check out the sidi kauoki wave. We met a french lady who said she had a place there.

Or to camp out near Tiznit (tifnit was it?) But even then we were told to move on. We ended up camping just across the street from the army barracks. No problems but there were a surprising number of walkers coming across the desert.

Anyhow... my girl is a bit timid & it sounds like we wil have constant hassles trying to wild camp near the beach? No, don't want to camp in the paid lot & good for her, she wouldn't pay either - has some value sense in her.

How about asking a local up in the hills behind Taghazout? Or just any local somewhere to pull up in front of their house for the night or 7?

Cheers!
Matt

hi it worked. yes we used to camp up in the hills .or up the mountain its called ,behind tagazoute . its getting harder even there. police and army came up with a digger and trenched the way in and out . but there is always somewhere . just it changes day to day. all the old regular places get moved sometimes . i didnt go last winter but my neighbour here did . this winter i think or going just spain and portugal. decided cant be bothered with the hassle . its easy in land . but i do like being by the sea.
even dakla was getting awkward so i,m told . trouble now is most places have water on tap in the houses .plus electric .its getting more like uk by the minute . as it gets more modern their views change as well. still thousands will still go . i might go its just kicking ideas at moment. i know several that were over this year are planning to return this winter. more and more are driving down to gambia . thats on the cards as well. shame as i like maroc but times change ever where. have fun what ever you end up doing .

Hi Alan -

Thanks for the note.

So how did it go for your neighbor? I'm pretty much on the fence about the whole thing. As I said before, I was really hoping to see the surf at Sidi Kaouiki. But now that I add up the cost of buying / registering / insuring a van, plus having to pay for camping or a place down there... maybe I'd just go for a car & drive to the beach on the good surf days. Stay in a flat in tag or maybe essouirra, if it isn't too much dinero. Or maybe just head to asia.

You didn't answer the bit about just asking to pay a local for a bit of their land. How do you think that might go over? I have one guy I know still in tag, maybe he'd know too.

How about wild camping around the UK? Would that be more or less hassle than atlantic side maroc?

thank you-
Matt

we did ask and use some moroccan friends fields but as its not got planning for a campsite the mayor or caide .came and made us move. they do still let you park at sidi kouki sometimes . we stopped by the resaurants two years ago. spent evenings with ahmed in one of them. or up at the headland to the left. behind the germans houses . you just dont know if when they will ask you to move. we had a firework display when the police came at the headland for new year .they thought it was great. shared a few drinks and were left alone. the only place we payed fot a guardian was at oualidia only 10 dirham and it was xmas. spent a few weeks up by skirat, that was ok.
also some time near the light house at cap beddouza down on the roundabout at the end of the road. .my neighbour is going again this winter .they got moved a bit . but its only a game. go and come back later.
i find wild camping in uk easy .but not so nice in winter.
not really bothered in asia unless we drive. i enjoyed that .might be doing it again but dont know when. cant be doing with flying and having dates to abide by. maroc is getting more expensive but then so is every where. i think uk is the best place to be .but not warm enough in winter. been great here the last few days sunny hot and dry. but not every where is the same. probably rain now i have said its nice .

OK It's sounding better. Today we seriously considered punting on the camper idea and just having a go at asia in the fall. that camper keeps gnawing away in the back of my head though. There is an 86 smiley ford transit camper here in Hungary. The guy wants about 2700 pounds for it. Doesn't do a great job answering questions about it though. i'm tempted to travel across the country to have a look.

Maybe we'd just get a simple little camper. A small VW and drive that down, stay mostly in apartments but have the camper for a few days here & there out in the wild. one of those for sale in holland.

Was all that on the christmas and new year of 2010/2011? Sounds like you had a right great time. I was there in Tag, up on a balcony. we lit up some lanterns and watched them float off. pure magic. love that place.

how can i pm you or email? i want to ask you about surf spots. Any north of Essouirra? Ever camp around Tifnit?

Cheers -
