I have used Sygic and maps.me as the main GPS navigation apps on my Samsung Galaxt tablet, and they have both served us well. Sygic could be a bit quirky, but I learned my way around.

However, since the last update in mid January 2018 I could not upload my POIs. I usually upload the latest POIs at the start of the year.

After trying lots of uninstall/install etc, I contacted Sygic support and after a long wait received the following:

Thank you for the report, we are currently aware of this situation. Currently, it is not possible to import personal POIs properly, since the map of UK is divided into several regions We are preparing a long-term solution. It should be fixed in one of the next updates for Sygic GPS Navigation, but it can take a while as it is part of a more complex issue.

When I asked how long . . . the summer update

Looking at CoPilot (trial) and it looks good, but reluctant to pay again for another app

Interesting this also looking at copilot and others for satnav having downsized to a pvc from largish MH and sold the garmin 760 satnav has don't need dedicated mh version currently have tomtom on the vehicle but out of date and not to good reports on this we'll see what the more informed users come with

Six months ago I would have recommended Sygic.

When I first decided to get a GPS app it was for a Hudl and a key factor was easy upload of own POIs.
For me personally, it came down to CoPilot and Sygic, and I went for Sygic and had no regrets. Moved over to Samsung Galaxy TAB and worked very well.

But, should I wait till the summer and just use maps.me, or bite the bullet and fork out for CoPilot W. Europe.

I use the Tom Tom Mobile app and have found it to be the best solution for me.

It's a subscription service at £14.99 per annum which includes all map updates, live traffic etc. You can't route based on vehicle dimensions but apps that I've tried that claim to do that aren't entirely reliable. So now I just keep my eyes open!

Is it easy to add POIs. What format are they?

Surprisingly Tom Tom OV2 ...

Very easy to add POIs. You need to create an account with Tom Tom and then you use Tom Tom My Drive on a PC to upload the POIs. Your app connects to the same account using an internet connection and each time the app starts it will refresh the POIs assuming a connection is available.

Read about My Drive here:

Transferring items from MyDrive to your navigation device

Confusingly there is also a product called My Drive Connect. Don't get them confused!

Incidentally you can use the app for free for up to 50 miles per month so you could give it a try ...

my map needs updating not saying it is old but the Fosse Way is showing under construction and apparently I live near Eboracum !! need a sat nav thingy for the moped , modern man thrust in the 21st century

You could also try IGO Primo. I have it working on a Samsung Tab 3. It is also installed on our Blaupunkt 945. I also managed to get the CoPilot Truck software running on the Samsung and the Blaupunkt. The Blaupunkt was a bit more trouble as it has twin sound channels one for the radio and one for sat nav. CoPilot now uses the sound channel for the radio so the radio is in the background when directions are given,

Have found that CoPilot works really well. POI's are easy to load and you can also put the speed camera database in as well.

IGO also works well and upto date maps are readily available.
