Switzerland, January via Motorhome

Hi there!

I am seeking a bit of advice! Another kiwi friend and I are planning a 7 day trip thru Switzerland in early January. We plan on collecting and returning a motorhome in Lyon, France and then entering Switzerland. We intend on obviously doing a 'loop' trip and seeing as much as we can in that time, with maybe a days skiing thrown in there. We have a couple of questions:

1) Are we mad? Will it be way too cold and therefore not very enjoyable being in a camper? Dangerous to drive?
2) We understand some camping grounds may be closed at this time of year. We are happy to stay anywhere, is it ok to park up on the roadside? What about in the towns, can we park somewhere central?
3) Can you suggest where we should be spending our 7 nights? Some must see places. We are not too fussed on urban centres and more keen on experiencing places with a 'ski town' type atmosphere, some lovely scenery and a place where we could have a drink and then return to the motorhome!

Any advice is welcome!

Thank you! :)

If you have a reasonable grasp of German you could try WOHNMOBILFORUM SCHWEIZ • Foren-Übersicht

Looks like there's quite a lot of info there but as my German is non-existent I can't say how useful it might be...

My only suggestion is to make sure that the van is fully winterised!

In Answer to your questions, It will be cold but as long you check the heating is working before you leave you should be ok, and leave the heating on low all the time, also make sure your water tanks are on board or well insulated, the other thing is snow chains which are most imprtant. They are quite relaxed in Switzerland about wild camping and especially in January you should be ok. Morgin and around that area is nice and a typical ski town, not purpose built, it is usually pretty quite in january. Have a nice time
