Swanage Dorset

Hi all, Just a heads up to anyone visiting Dorset that swanage appears to be very anti motorhomes. It seems the problem is mainly on the on the sea front, but also the roads behind the sea front have cars and motorcycles only signs, and is enforsed as in know someone that got a ticket in his company van, he was working in a customers house so even stealth vans are not imune. So looks like carparks only or a drive around the town,or you could avoid Swanage altogether as the mayor says in the local rag the campervan problem has to be dealt with as we don"nt spend any money in the town!

Swanage used to allow an overnight stay in a couple of the car parks in an attempt to be accommodating to motorhomes and to try to alleviate the parking problems in the town.

Sadly they no longer allow overnighting in the car parks, citing problems with people overstaying, messing up the toilets, hanging up washing lines, etc.

Our own worst enimies aren't we, or some of us are, it's true that on the whole we don't spend much money in places like Swanage, we turn up with a well stocked Campervan with goodies bought at cheap Supermarkets else where, expect to park for free , take up a lot of space , leave mess and dump our toilets in the public loos, and wonder why we are not welcome, next time you visit Swanage park at Norden Station and take the Swanage Steam Train into Swanage, ride the train all day on the same ticket, buy some Fish and Chips in the very good Chippies at Swanage , put some money into the local economy and have a great time.
