Sun Solo

Hi all

Was in the local caravan shop yesterday and they had a 'Sun Solo' for £20. It is basically a solar trickle charger which you sit in the windscreen just to keep the battery at full charge when a vehicle isn't used for a while. You simply plug it into the cigar lighter. As my battery runs down after a couple of weeks then for the price it sounds good.
Anyone got experience of??????????

Cheers

Hia
I have one of these it sits on the dashboard as for working I have no idea and yes it is wired up to the battery :D:D

If your cigar lighter socket has no power supply with ignition off, you have to link it directly to the battery with crocodile clips. If the socket is still live then it will work.

But then, I might have that the wrong way round.

I had something similar a few years back, it also charged AAs etc.

I went into the van one day and all the wires connecting to the cig lighter were melted.

Not recommended.

The 1.5W charger is a waste of time. You need at least 12w and even then you may not be getting 1 amp back to the battery. Especially this time of year.

If you get anything bigger, it could boil up your battery if you do not have a regulator.

Our roof-mounted solar panel is linked up to both the leisure battery and the engine battery (don't have a clue how it works but the nice man who fitted it does). It seems to work very well and when we put the van in storage for six months over the winter of 07/08 so we could set off round the world with our backpacks it worked exceptionally well - the engine kicked over first time on our return (even though I had come prepared with jumpleads and a mate's car!).

Yep. My 50 quid 15w panel is on the roof keeping everything tip top charged up.
