Hi. I've just had my Ford Transit Autotrail 'Tribute T625 Sport' Motorhome Reg YD12 JCX stolen from a driveway on Water Orton Road, Birmingham sometime in the night of 29 to 30/7/17. It seems that Transits are a doddle to steal by popping the bonnet catch from under the vehicle and by attaching a different ECU the, using a key that works with that ECU they simply drive away. It takes less than 5 minutes. Ford really needs to sort this out but I'm writing this to let owners know how quickly our van disappeared with all our valuables worth thousands of pounds as we were on our way home from a holiday in France and a wedding in Italy. My advice (now) is to think carefully about how many valuable items you have with you and that items such as cameras, phones, tablets and laptops are not covered by household insurance if stolen from a van.
I remember hearing a motorbike speeding off during the evening the van was stolen but I had another theory. We had stopped at a motorway service station on the M40 for a just a few minutes. During this time it is not without possibility that someone could have checked our van over then put a magnetic tracker on our van and followed us later. They could also have intercepted the remote control signal as I locked or unlocked the van then they would have had time to make a key using that code before returning. They could even have done all this whilst we were on the ferry from France.
We have lost thousands of pounds here but at least we were not sleeping in the van at the time and we are all physically healthy even though, in our minds, we are feeling sick.
Looking through these sites I can see that we are not the only ones to have been targetted.

Gutted for you. The reality of the situation, unfortunately, isn't in your favour. Not much more I can say really.:sad:

They don't need an ECU, they can program a new key into the existing ECU in seconds with a box that costs £75. The doors are easy to open and so is the bonnet, a pick will cost you a fiver.

People need to get a disclok and change the driver's door barrel.

BTW I went to Park Hall.

Thank you for your sympathy. We have resigned ourselves to the fact that we will never see any of our stuff again but at least nobody got hurt and it prompted me to change the lock on the house door that I had been meaning to do for years.

Sorry to read this hope barstewards get caught .
Neat spelling 'error.' Yeah, they will eventually and will probably have to serve over a week in prison for it. I would stop at nothing short of a rusty razor blade if I caught the barstewards. The next van I get will be so secure the AA wouldn't be able to get into it. It won't be a Ford Transit though.
