Michael Foster - UK Pub stopovers for motorhomes & campervans

I had my Ford Transit Motorhome stolen last night from my driveway in Mossley Hill of Liverpool in the early hours of Monday 24th May.
It's a Ford Transit Motorhome Rollerteam 500.
Registration: YN57JXB.
Please keep an eye for it or if you see or hear anything.

General opinion seems to be young Irish travellers no longer able to tow caravans on the new standard license. Don't think that's the whole story though, just high value easy turnover so they're gonna be big business just now, as everyone & his brother wants a campervan....😕
Hopefully self built one offs will not follow this alarming trend, as quite a lot of us have built our own.

Sounds kind of strange reading the above that the 'solution' to not being able legally tow a caravan is to steal a motorhome?

would someone who is happy to nick a vehicle be that concerned about a motoring offence?

The thinking is they might be able to change the id of a MH, and get away with it. Whereas it's easy to spot someone young at the wheel of a car(avan)

It seems these makes are going walkies all the time are rollerteam and chasson vans probably the most common vans on the rd as most MH hire companies use these two makes so plenty older ones around and easy to steal and clone. There’s probably loads cloned of one legit van.

As we all know, motorhoming/van life has gone through the roof. Tradesmen are paying through the nose for a van at the moment. As with any new fad, there will always be those that choose to exploit it. The big problem I see coming is the inevitable price hike in motorhome insurance. Knock on effect, a lot of people staying on basic van insurance and throwing a mattress in the back. We need a slightly more Saudi Arabian approach to dishonest people.

Now they're (purportedly) opening up for tourism, I wonder if chop square will be on the agenda for the Riyadh bus tour? 💀 😳

I am not fully sure on this. I took out insurance today on my Campervan conversion. Full Camper cover, £160.
Commercial Van insurance has always been more pricey than Motorhome insurance.

Really. Do you have any stipulations that a van wouldn't? Max milage or anything?
Well, lots!

A motorhome is a leisure vehicle and so is not expected to be used for commercial or business purposes. That is the key difference. You want to add commercial use and the price goes up. some commercial uses are likely not available.
the typical motorhome insurance is SDP - social, domestic and pleasure. The typical car insurance includes commuting. the typical commerical might include carry goods for sale.
Insurance is all about risk assessment - the typical motorhome is older, does less miles, avoids rush hour driving, etc, etc.

People also see a MH as a prized possession and treat it accordingly. White van man? Not so much...

Ok. Thanks man. Yeah, I've had the haulage insurance before. Not cheap. Sadly mh insurance wouldn't be any good for me as it's my only vehicle. I need it for many things.
depending on the breakdown of private vs business use, you might find it worthwhile to phone around? the Policy I had previously on the Campervan until a week ago included a degree of business use. I used A-Plan.
The motorhome is with Comfort and their standard policy is unsual in that it includes Commuting and travelling to places of business.

Worth making the calls - I think especially with smaller campers like the VW T5s say, more and more people use them as their only transport.

Time for folk to use a pedal lock and other things to slow the bu--ers down, mine has a chain to go round the s/wheel as well.View attachment 97965View attachment 97966View attachment 97967View attachment 97968

Yup, quite right, Trev.

An increase in the good old-fashioned mechanical deterrents in addition to all the fancy techie gizmos - as many as you can think of!

Shame we all have to think like this, but such is modern life 🤷‍♀️

Our van's 100% safe - currently on the drive without an engine battery in it ;):ROFLMAO::cool:(y)

That's the way to do it :D

I have a Steering Wheel Lock thingy, and a Wheel Clamp jobby. I keep them both safe from theft by hiding them under the seat (that is how it works, yes?)
