stolen catalyctic converters

cat thefts are common place know its been going on now for well over 2 years , i know for a fact that cars are nicked and they cut the cat off and then fire the car , i know of one car sales in my neck of the woods that had 5 cats cut off in one night on his forecourt.

Has that started up again, my car failed mot on exhaust emissions, first changed the sensor jobbie then the cat, all done at home. phoned the scrap yard they said you can bring it in if you want but they aint worth owt now, just normal scrap value. that was about 5 months ago.:drive::sad: though iwas going to get some money back, in end took it to the motor factors who where suppliers of the exhaust, got £17.00 hand in back, was bought on a mates trade account.

Is it happening to diesel particulate filters, also?

I doubt it. DPF's operate in a variety of ways, but most don't contain precious metals like gasoline converters. They are still expensive to make, but the raw materials value is not the same.

Marquis at Lower Upham, nr Southampton, have a notice saying that all Cats have been removed by them due to previous thefts, I asked a Sales man about it and he said that despite CCTV and fences thieves had still stolen cats on previous occasions and their Insurance Company now insisted they were removed from Vehicles on their Forecourts. If any one thinks that the Scrap Yards will play ball on stopping the theft of scrap they are living in cloud Cuckoo land IMO.
