Hi all ,well we are still in Portugal, Silves to be exact, it's getting busier now a few more vans turning up more Brits appearing, we have been all the way along the Algarve, wild camping all the way, no problems so far except at Tavira, no wild camping allowed any where that comes under Tavira control, we went up the West coast as far as Millfontes only to find height barriers in the usual wild camp place on the cliff top,so we went to the Barragem instead,Bgm Monte de Rocha,no problem there, all the beaches from Sagres to Millfontes are still OK to wild camp on ,except Millfontes as stated,it got a bit cold that far North so we decided to come back to the Algarve again and it is warmer here at Silves, a bit chilly at night though, hot water bottles soon cure that though. We don't know where we will be at Christmas ,but that is still a week away so no worries, I had a problem with my water system in the van, each time I tried a tap it took a while for water to appear,it turned out to be the pump ,diaphragm ,I guess ,as when I took the pump off I could see that water just ran out the bottom of it so no, non return facility,I had a spare pump so I fitted that and all is well again. I am currently sat by the pool in the swimming baths writing this, free WI FI, but as it is such a lovely day I will have my swim and Sauna and go walk about to the Castle and drink a few ales somewhere, best wishes to all for Christmas, Malc.:D:D

Algarve

Can agree with you about cold nights - brrrrr! We're along the road at Altura at the moment and will be heading for Sagres for Christmas.

Lovely and warm when the sun's shining - so may be cold for next couple of days as rain forecast.

Never mind eh?

Hi Malc

You make me jealous I woke up to more snow today in South Wales.
I am planning a visit to Portugal early next year but it would help me greatly if you could give me some idea of the weekly cost of living there not including diesel or campsites. I will hopefully be wild camping probably on my own but I only have my pension of around £400 per month to live on - can you let me know if it can be done please

Thanks Alan

Hi Alan, well apart from Diesel costs, if you wild camp all the time , you only pay for your food and entertainment so it can be as cheap or expensive as you want to make it, food is cheaper than in the UK as is eating out, you can get a good meal for about 7 euros, fresh fruit and veg is also cheap, especially if you buy in local markets but Supermarkets are cheap as well.We are using Spanish Repsol gas here in Portugal easily obtained and I have just changed a bottle Propane 13 kg and it cost me 23 euros, you can get your calor bottles refilled here too.[ I mean REFILLED and not EXCHANGED ]No problem wild camping here and if you cross the Channel at Dover it is very cheap SEA FRANCE and free camping and Aires are freely available all the way down to Spain where again there are Aires and free camping, so all in all it can be done very cheaply, I would say that you could be here long term easily on your £400 a month and have change, so as they say Come on Down.:D:D:D

Hi Vindiboy

Thanks very much for the very useful information you have answered my queery about gas as well. Well I am definetly coming down just as soon as I sort my insurance out. By the way I have found a website where there are adverts for people to guest on organic farms and other places where you have to work a few hours a day and they give you accomodation and food so that also sounds like a plan

Travel Companions Wanted: free travel mates finding service p4

that way you get to know the locals.

Thanks again grateful for anymore information that you can pass onto us especially on Portugal.
