Hi all, just took cover off BigBertha today she started first time and drives fine, Now this is my first time at cleaning the tanks and pipes, Need some advice, How much sterilising fluid do i use, I was going to use Milton as for Babies bottles and things. Would this be ok and how long would you leave it for, Or is there something else on the market to use.

Any advice please:confused:

miton is fine also vinegar can get rid of algi
when clean keep the tank as full as possible to stop growth on the inside of your tank
if you have previously used a clear plastic container yopu will have noticed how green the inside gets
it wont happen in a consealed tank as there is no light to make the algi grow
i always drain the tank and refill with fresh water when we return from a trip and refill again before setting off on a new trip

Milton works very well, many chemists do an own brand cheaper version too. about half a bottle for a 50 l tank for at least 30 mins does the job. If you are nervous, use the whole bottle and wait a little longer. Run the solution thru the taps if you have them, rinse well and there should be virtually no taste at all. If there is, more rinsing needed!
...then, enjoy a nice cuppa!

Great Advice How often would anyone suggest cleaning with sterilizing fluid?

How long is a piece of string?
Before you get ill is good. If you notice more loo visits than usual then its time. It does depend on how clean your supply hose/carrier is and how much light gets in.
I lived on a boat for 5 years and never needed to sterilise the tanks, but only filled from mains and used my own clean hose. Now I use carriers, once a year does the job, although one did get algae last year (Why do they sell white plastic water carriers??!)and I got the squits last year. Its gone and I keep with a black one now.

Hi, Milton or similar does it for me, usualy 2-3 times/yr. I use a cupfull in the system and leave overnight, then flushout. At the sametime do the spare water carriers.
Black water containers make more sense, no algae due to sunlight but can be mixed up if not clearly marked and the results!!! well runs or squits is not out of the question or worse.

Happy Camping:)
