Stealth Security Cams

Hi Folks,

I have seen various discussions about security cams inside and outside the van but they all seem to be bulky affairs - given tiny and excellent cameras in mobile phones surely there are some proper stealth options out there?

Apart from attracting attention the kind of cams I have seen discussed are targets for vandalism / disconnection on the outside of the van and ugly and space wasting inside the van. Surely there is a better way?

A Signal Jammer will knock out typically all remote cameras using a Sim Card or local Wi-Fi to send camera info and data out.
Please understand his this a common device used in a professional thieves tool kit! Not an issue with an opportunist, but a pro...….........

Thank you - so what's the 'money no object' solution?

Maybe something like this?

Your own interpretation on how far you wish to go in protecting your investment is the short answer.
Some are happy with just mechanical devices, some use camera systems, some use Thatcham approved systems, some use all options, it's your own personal preference on how much you wish to "stop the horse from bolting from the stable".
There is no "money no object solution" if you asses the risk differently to other people.
My reasoning for mentioning the Signal Blocker, is that as they are so easy and cheap to buy, it's the most common device used by thieves today.

You don't say when you need cameras.

If it for when it is parked at your property you could use a mains powered PIR security light. Get the type which includes a plug in alarm. You just plug it in to a socket in the house and when the PIR is activated, it alerts you. You can also plug another device into this gizmo, which could be another outside light or an external alarm. I use a bedside light which comes on and lets the villain know they have been rumbled.

Exchange your awning light for one PIR enabled to deter thieves. Buy a set of reversing sensors and fit them around the Cab and Hab doors, rig them up to an alarm.

You can buy a decent Trail camera for £30 or £40 to keep an eye on your van discreetly. It records to an SD card (no wifi) and works well in the dark. After an incident here, I placed mine in a Hydrangea plant but all I caught were Cats and Hedgehogs. :giggle:

I suppose you could have the wireless cams plus some kind of on board wired memory disc on a separate cam, but honestly for my purposes I would just like to check up on the dog and look outside without 'twitching the curtains'. So weather-proof stealth for outside and some 'dog cams' inside broadcasting to my phone via the Huwai Router I've got would be pretty damn good.

I'm a full timer in a Knaus Ducato conversion 6.4 m. I'm sort of pretending to be a builders van so don't want the PIR's in or on van.

Something like this might do for the dogs?

To check on the dog just use an old smartphone and use Alfred Camera (other apps are available).

Don't worry about what is outside. What are you going to do anyway? Have a look outside, let them (whoever) know the van is occupied, if you are worried just drive away. Sometimes too much imagination can get you down. I used to work with people who slept fully clothed in case of trouble and never got a proper nights sleep. I used to sleep like a baby, as nekkid as a jaybird. They, and I, are still here. ;)

Yep take the point and I am the same as you though maybe some of my courage comes from always having an incredibly strong and loud dog with me

If you dream you van is stolen then. Your be fine. Most of the vehicals ive have had since 1997 have been taken and awoke in a panic, but there still where parked. Apart from nissan serena 'Bettsy' with 3rd party only insurance L318NGY. 6K gone never seen again. 1997
Your job is to insure the thing when not in it. And dream when away from it of your new places the both of you will vist.
