Just seen that the Space X Starlink internet connection dish is now OK for use in motorhomes etc. This gives a portable 100MB data connection that you can use almost anywhere in Europe. Up to now it had to be used in one cell - but now you can roam about anywhere in one continent.

It isnt cheap (about 100 a month). But if fast internet is important to you, maybe not so much ???? It can be used anywhere it has visibility of most of the sky. So perfect for out of the way locations. Does not need any signal than that of the satellites.

I am going to try it myself and will update here. Power consumption needs testing.

Not cheap as you post but if you are running a web based business or the like then maybe.
Presumably you can the claim against tax. Relibility is key.

I’ve had it for about six months now works fine and it’s very fast. I bought it thinking that it could be used in the motorhome at a later stage. I’ve bolted it on too the top of the gable end of the house so it’s now fixed in position and won’t be coming off for use in the motorhome. It’s quite bulky and awkward so unless they make a new version for motorhomes boats rvs then I think current one wouldn’t suit for mounting to a motorhome and it is energy hungry and it would have to stand on the ground outside Like a portable solar panel. They also need a clear line with no trees or buildings. £80 a month and I was £500 for the hardware I waited six months. It might be cheaper now and the times maybe shorter.

China will have one on the market soon for a fraction of that price, keep an eye out on ebay. 😂

The price just went up. I think it was by about £10 per month, plus an additional £20 per month "portability" fee.
The power consumption is astonishingly high. 40 to 75 watts, more when transmitting. Fine in a house, not so good on the road.

When used mobile you won’t necessarily get fast connections either, you have to check what they say the coverage is like. In areas where it isn’t full speed fixed installs take priority.

Different thing I know but I was Amazed to see I had 5G in Tain in Scotland last month with speeds over 100Mb, til then I was under the impression it was only going in large urban areas for the foreseeable future.

I think they are only releasing where there is coverage. Most of Europe is but near Turkey not covered yet. And Starlink is initially aimed at remote places - not cities that usually have other options. From what I read it works too.

There is a second generation dish much smaller than the first. But I imagine there will be even smaller and lighter coming. And others are going to compete with Starlink too.

However it is interesting to get a whole new technology and capability. Game changer really.
