Hello Everyone, Good to be here - With the torid pandemic affecting how we survive the journey of life is certainly extreme.
Having been focused on family and sustaining an income (No Govt support available for us) since returning in March from Spain with the virus firmly attached, scrabbling through the borders before they closed, arriving in UK as the Lockdown began we do not know what has happened to members.
We were fortunate - Apart from my Mother who had a second TIA, now recovered, and a close relative who needed treatment for Covid Anxiety both our families have muddled through relatively unscathed.
Unemployment for some came and the aftermath consequences are still being felt.

Within the membership have we an idea of whom succumbed?

FUTURE
We need to see the sun over the winter for medical reasons - hence our thoughts are to go to S.Italy/Sicily as an alternative to our usual Iberia. Still longing for a trip to Morroco - one day we will bite the bullet.

Reading some posts of those already in Europe - and comments of fines being issued worries us, are the authorities changing the landscape to be unwelcome?

What are your plans and thoughts for the winter?

Phew! You are very brave putting something like this on here. More power to you.
Be prepared for “experts” telling you, how irresponsible you are, how you must obey government dictates.
Tbh, I’m with you, on the wish/intention to get winter sun.
The two things that bother me, are with ****** at the end of the year, losing the EHIC, and the government’s view on international travel, health insurance will be impossible to obtain.

We are currently in Spain and have encountered no hostility. We feel safer here and feel more precautions being taken , certainly in rural areas . We are residents now though and have private medical cover so maybe we are in a good place ?

If had the time off work wouldn't think twice about getting away for some winter sun. South Italy and Sicily sound a perfect destination to me.

Encountering hostility.
There’s a tiny possibility you may have misread my post. Any potential hostility, would come from readers on here.
Like you, I was lucky enough to spend time in Southern Europe, Portugal in my case. The locals made me incredibly welcome. Sorry to see me leave, placated when assured I would return.
I’d live there if the finances were available to me, although 45o Centigrade summers, would be a problem.
Residency in Portugal? I think that boat may have sailed.

Tis funny Trotter - The way the world changed also the interpretation of who should be allowed to do what when lockdown arrived changed the attitudes of many.
I get a feeling the forum has had a bit of a battering with different ideologies and interpretation by members who oppose those who have to get on with life.
IF you were a lorry driver, part of the NHS or public services or a supermarket employee you were free of any shackles to a degree.

In what I chose to do, (self appointed Delivery Driver) I received chastisement and wrongly accused of disregard for others, but once I had described my circumstances and could get them to see beyond their personal viewpoint the majority accepted the situation. Following the required sanitisation rules and all paperwork I have been to various parts of the UK, Holland, Ireland and Belgium over the past few months as well as getting a part time role remote teaching to college students.

FUTURE
****** is a worry - my feeling is that MH'ers will travel from Germany/Holland/France as they have done for years so we in UK can also - the torment of paperwork, insurances and other impositions placed on us NON-EUROPEANS will need to be managed similar to how it was in the early days.

I sense we shall be persuaded to pay a little more for the privilege and have to prepare for unexpected medical needs and changing scenarios with localised lockdowns.

I guess also access to the internet will be more important to keep up with news and to seek advice.

The next few months will be intersting as the UK Gov't are challenged and trade deals sorted - cost of eating will rise no doubt and shortages will abound.

OH WELL - Chin up and plan to get away armed with as much knowledge as you can, we can only hope for a bright and sunny future - especially with global warming affecting the climate so badly.

The way things have been in recent months shows you how fragile life and the economy is and how fast things can change.
I would have thought, if you decide to go abroad, that you would easily find somewhere to park up, even if not where you would normally choose.
As for actually doing it then good on you, just go for it if you are happy, for us personally it’s a stay home. Tbh I haven’t seen much hostility from anybody regarding people’s movements as such, it’s just the people who get in your personal space ie: within 1/2 metres that bugs me, and probably lots of others. Tc and happy travels.
