what if you were to approach the supermarket height barrier unable to go under you park up,lock up and go in and do your shopping after casually mentioning what you've had to do to a store employee?? what would, could or should happen next:cool:

I think you have an evil mind.

I think we should plan this...target a supermarket and do this at every entrance.

especially if you have to unload your mobility scooter which you need a tall car/ van to fit it into and all the disabled spaces are beyond the barrier. Listen up IKEA...

i think i would drive into the delivery area park at a delivery bay do my shopping and demand they load my shopping into the van

My van is a pop top so will go under some height barriers but not others. What a lottery - how do they decide what height to make them?

Last weekend I drove merrily into a car park to be confronted by a height barrier - luckily it was 9 feet, so no problem, but I don't know what I'd have done if it had been 6 feet - queue of cars behind me and no where to turn round - what do others do if this happens?

Later that day I found a car park that had a height barrier, drove a little further along the road intending to turn round but it was a cul de sac - luckily there was another entrance to the same car park there - with no height barrier, so I went in and parked up instead.

Where's the sense in that?

Our MH is 3.3 mts high and it is very annoying that the Supermarkets
and other Retail Outlets put up these infernal things.

We use the van at weekends so that the dog can fit in and more
often than not visit a Supermarket for the odd thing. Why do they
pick on the Motorhome fraternity ?

Could it be - Allegedly. To stop Big Vans with even Bigger towed caravans
from entering their sites.

We caused chaos in France by entering the Supermarket slip road only to
find a Height Barrier at the Car Park entrance. It was fun watching the French
Motorists and listening to the different horns and hooters.

Maybe someone nicked the Height Sign. roflmao.

By the way we love France and the way of life.

Who can guess the minds of middle managers? /shrug

I reckon we ought to team up with other MH and caravan groups - and start getting something done about it. It would be very interesting to hear their respective defences against what amounts to discriminatory acts. And while we are about it, start twisting arms to provide Aires in some locations.

Sorry, I always get a bit bolshy after my second sherry.

I really like the idea of a group of MH going to retail parks local car parks and just stopping when we reach the height barrier until somebody opens it for us !!

Me too!

However, to be fair to ASDA at Queensferry, N Wales, we complained about their height barrier in the suggestion box in store and within 2 months the barrier was left permanently open. Whether this is because the store is on one of the major routes into N Wales I can't say but at least something positive happened.

Some places have a height barrier at the exit. There will be no warning signs and the car park, which usually be very large, will have a one way system in operation.

I got to the barrier and stopped. I couldn't go back because of the traffic behind me. So i locked the van and waited for the security cameras to pick up the problem

Loads of enraged shoppers and me? I couldn't give 2 ****s

And before you ask: Tesco at Copdock, Suffolk

if i had found the hight barrier ang there had been a queue of cars behind me then unless the cars backed up to let me reverse out then the cars would not have got into the car park

Maybe we ought to start an online petition or poll, which allows we motorhomers who feel angry at not being able to park up in major supermarket car parks, to register our complaints regarding not being able do our shopping due to the use of height barriers! Once completed, it could be sent to the head office of all the major stores and retail parks etc. Surely, If they could be made aware of how big the motorhome market is and the potential revenue they are obviously losing out on, then who knows - they may be motivated to address the problem?
