Speedo and dash busted - VW T4

Hey there, we're new to the forums, but signed up a few months back and have already spent a few weekends wild camping in our VW T4. She's a beauty.

I have a question for any mechanic-minded people out there, or perhaps someone has had a similar experience?

All of the dials on my dashboard have gone out of sync/not working, they just kind of float around, or go off around each point. Any one got any suggestions for what could of happened? Electrical fault? Is it an easy fix?

I left the van on my parents drive as I'm currently working in London, so don't have a parking spot. I came back and started her up, nd now this is happening.. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like possibly a bad earth or a bsi fault ,it’s like a fuse board but does more without getting too tech ,think it’s a job for a auto spark or mech who know their stuff
If the battery is low or done same faults can occur

Agreed, first point of call is to make sure the earth strap ( normally on the gearbox ) has a good clean and tight connection :hammer:

It's a fairly common fault on the T4 and down to the instrument PCB usually.
Some folk swap out the whole cluster. Others try and resolve by resoldering the PCB in an attempt to fix dry joints (can't recall if that works or not typically). Got a recollection that the fault does come and go with the damp.
This fault is discussed frequently on the VWT4Forum.co.uk.
Good luck.

Thanks!

Nice one, thanks all. Always good to go armed with the facts when going to get it fixed, saves time and means I won't end up paying for work that might not need to be done. Will find a decent garage and get it fixed up.

Cheers!

Have a google their are company's out their that can fully reconditioned. Instrument cluster standard charge £150 .
