Just thought I would let you know, as quite a lot of people have had speeding tickets in France in this last year I also got one, 4kms over the limit . It was on a dual carriageway without a centre barrier. Today when I came to renew my wife's insurance on her car with Saga they asked me if I had any convictions as a named driver. As a precaution I said that I had received a speeding fine in France, I said that I didn't think it counted as nothing goes on my license. The man said he would have to check with his boss which he did and no it doesn't count. Just thought I would let everyone know.

Did you pay the fine I have had two in the last year and have not paid them . I bet they will catch me if I ever get stopped again in France :D :D

Our neighbours in France got a speeding ticket the other year and went to pay for it along with other bills and didn't get a receipt for it so couldn't prove they had paid for it when they got the next letter and instead of only paying 40e they ended up having to pay 400e.

I think there is now a private company chasing these fines . I got hit with one from a while back .
Don't know what margin of error is on modern speed cameras ? French seem to issue fines if fraction over .
Here in Spain the limit appears to change without notice ?

AFAIK the 'margin of error' used in France is not that much different to UK, but the letter issued will refer to you being x amount over the 'margin of error', this is why you get a fine for only being 1mph over.

From a very similar thread -Sp FineS in F
I cam home last week and received a 90euro fine for 56kph in a 50. Fine issued as 51kph as they reduce the recorded speed by 5.
So they reduce your speed rather than increase the limit hence the perception of being fined for 1kph over.
In UK we probably get 5mph grace which is a lot more leeway.

Thank you for all your replies, I only put this thread up because if an Insurance Company has got a get out they will not pay you. I thought it best to tell them so it is now on record with them and they can't dispute it.
Yes, I paid my fine because I know someone who did't and it cost them alot of money .
We go to France normally 3 time a year so it is best to pay the 40 euros for peace of mind.

Makes sense - you could be picked up for an unpaid fine at any time on another visit with ANPR.

Out of interest, how long was it between the speeding and the fine arriving?

theyve obviously got vehicle owner details from swansea so could easily tag your passport number and be waiting at the docks.

Which begs the question why we can't do the same to all the foreign lorries here ?

Different agreements. As far as I remember UK decided not to participate. But could be wrong.......someone will know!

We were lucky in that we were on our way home so, it was about a week between being flashed as speeding and receiving the letter at home.
