I've seen posts recently off people recieving speeding tickets from France that were from nearly 12 months ago, now I know the speed limit have been reduced to 80kph on single carriageways from 90kph and towns are 50kph, but what speed can you do on the motorways as I have seen conflicting information, my vehicle is over the 3500 Kg limit, if that makes a difference, I have googled it and one site stated 110kph and yet another site says 90kph, can anyone advise me on this please, as I don't fancy picking up a speeding ticket on top of the toll fee's.

Yes it's a bit confusing, I went through a speed camera section today and it looked like some sensors high up which I presume are to measure your vehicle and then camera pointing forward, I was doing a tad over 90kph on the motorway. But on another forum it seems that the French are sending speeding tickets out to people from last year, apparently they have up to 12 months to send you a notification of a speeding offence.

Comfort is misleading as well. Not looked past UK limits and they are not right even then!

Whilst a motorhome that weighs more than 3.05 tonnes will have to abide by these speed limits:
Built-up Areas 30 mph
Single Carriageways 50 mph
Dual Carriageways 60 mph
Motorways 70 mph

It is not WEIGHING over 3.05t which is the factor of course.

France is still 110kmh as well there
Motorhome Speed Limits France
Motorhome weighing under 3.5t 81mph, 130km/h 56-68mph, 90-110km/h
Motorhome weighing more than 3.5t 68mph, 110km/h 50-62mph, 80-100km/h

Yes, very misleading.

I guess the CC got mixed up with the optional TUV test and Comfort can't even read the .guv site properly.

• Is there a speed limit?
No. If the camper weighs less than 3.5 tonnes , there is no specific speed limit for this type of vehicle in the Highway Code: they are subject to the same rules of conduct and the same speed limits. than other vehicles in this category. However, plan for greater safety distances and watch out for the wind!

Yes. If your vehicle weighs more than 3.5 tonnes without a trailer , you must respect the following limitations: 110 km / h on the highway; 100 km / h on two-lane highways separated by a median; 80 km / h on other roads; 50 km / h in built-up areas. You are not allowed to drive on the left-most part of a road with more than two lanes if your vehicle is over 7 meters long or is a heavy vehicle.

And also:

• Can I get a car on my motorhome?
No , according to the Highway Code, only a trailer is allowed to be hitched to a motor vehicle. Except for the breakdown service, it is forbidden to drive in a rolling set consisting of a motorhome and a car. It must be placed on a trailer (approved car carrier) to be towed behind a camper.

... and I can attach bikes?

Yes , all over Europe, except in Portugal where it is forbidden to carry bicycles in the back of your vehicle.

Did you mean on the back? Or in the back?

My understanding is you can carry cycles or motorbikes so long as they do not extend more than 45cm from the rear of vehicle, and must not protrude either side, and you must have the red and white stripped marker boards attached.
My rear bumper has been extended and the marker boards are fitted to 45 cm from the bumper, the marker boards are different for Italy, and Portugal, ( great European harmonisation eh!).
The fella I bought my van off did 8 months in Portugal with this setup and had no police stop him.

Well if you follow the link https://www.wildcamping.co.uk/forum...Texte=LEGITEXT000006074228&dateTexte=20110418

to the Fr gov website then that must be the LAW! If it's wrong then that's a good starting point to dispute and trumped up speeding office. And google kindly translates it for us.

So do we come under this criteria as a camper van

Modified by Decree No. 2008-754 of July 30, 2008 - art. 17
However, the speed of vehicles referred to in Article R. 413-8 intended for the carriage of passengers and whose total permissible gross weight is greater than 3.5 tonnes and less than or equal to 12 tonnes is limited to:

1 ° 110 km / h on motorways;

(2) 100 km / h on two-carriageway roads separated by a median strip when they are of a priority nature and indicated as such;

3 ° 80 km / h on other roads.

If so then that means we can do 110kph on the motorways, if not and we are a vehicle over 3500kg then we are restricted to 90kph.

i don't really have a clue. Wondered the same thing when link was posted.
Anyway, found this, Glossary for Transport Statistics 4th Edition

So I'll guess, provided you are registered as a Motor Caravan, 110kph is the limit.
