At 08:00 I opened up Wildcamping. There were 11 posts to be read. 10 of those posts were from Spammers/Scammers, or whatever you wish to call them. Lately, in the last week or so, they have infiltrated Wild Camping and seem to make a pronounced effort of disturbing our pleasure of posting our thoughts and comments on this Site. I wonder how you folks feel about this situation. Is it possible that PHIL could do something about this? I find it frustrating to look forward to reading an interesting post and find myself faced with such nonsense.

Hi David & Ann

I agree its a pain but I think the only way to reduce it, is to make it full members only and all have a code to log in with. This would also cut out all the free members ???.
Shame that the freedom of the internet is a double edged sword

It is one of the downsides of most of the forums unless you restrict membership, it's a bit like junk mail & email. I have registered to stop mail & phone calls, I have filters set to remove suspect emails BUT there are still some that get through. What do you want Phil or some other moderator sitting there 24/7 to read then censor possible spam  Bit unrealistic, I think that this site does a good job of removing this type of junk, you don't have to read every post all the way through to see what the message is

Thanks guys for your output. Being computer illiterate, I was afraid that those sort of things could or would corrupt a computer. I see your points about the new comers wanting to join Wildcamping. My apoligies for being ignorant. I feel a bit relieved that it is only an annoyance and not a danger to our computers. Thanks once again for easing my worries.

I realise that this is one of the unfortunate side-effects of the internet but wonder whether there is something we can do to reduce it. For example, I notice that there is a whole page of spam that has suddenly appeared on the "Europe with a dog" thread - are there certain key words that they are homing in on, perhaps? Like David, I am computer illiterate and so maybe talking nonsense - I just wondered.

Just remember and do not click on any links

use report button to Phil

There seems to have been a bit of an upsurge recently, I've had an increasing number of scam replies to ads on my motorhomes for sale website too. Not to mention someone from Turkey hacking into it

I find the best way to read this forum is just to go straight to: www.wildcamping.co.uk/forums/search.php?do=getnew&contenttype=vBForum_Post
which just brings up the new messages. I can then just go down the list reading the ones I'm interested in. It's easy enough to ignore the spam postings.

I've also had a few, hopefully if we all ignore them they'll go elsewhere and look for mugs!

Remember NEVER click on any links and NEVER click on the link to 'unsubscribe' from these emails as that tells them your address works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
