Filled up with Spanish diesel today and surprised to receive a 25c per litre discount on my bill.

The Spanish government have introduced a 20c discount per litre and Repsol are giving a further 5c per litre.

At current prices and exchange rates this works out at around £1.32 per litre for diesel after discount at Repsol stations.

The discount also applies to LPG so filled up my Gaslow tanks also.

Makes the U.K. governments 5p seem a bit on the mean side.

Make sure you fill your tank before taking Bilbao or Santander ferry back to the U.K., or even if about to enter France.

Yes , not complaining , but strange they don't show it on their price displays

Maybe price fluctuations are happening so fast the technology at fuel stations isn't keeping up?

And not so strange if you think about the logistics.
Are the standard digital fuel price displays able to include any government discounts on their station screens?
I kind of doubt it, but I know nothing about the way Spain operates, or how sophisticated their petrol forecourts are.

It's probably just way simpler to apply the double discounts at the tills when you go to pay, and perhaps makes it much simpler to account for the government discount separately from their own prices 🤷‍♀️

Filled up at the Bilbao ferry terminal petrol station a few hundred yards past the ferry terminal entrance and was charged only €1.48 per litre which was the rate shown on the pump which included the 20c discount. This is the cheapest diesel In Spain right now so form an orderly queue if you are around the ferry terminal.

That is £1.25 a litre in proper money at current exchange rates.

It is right next to the oil terminal and is used mainly by trucks with a large number of truck only pumps. It has a limited number of car pumps. Probably explain the low price.
