I recently questioned Southport council about providing a place for campervans/motorhome to short stay overnight and perhaps provide a water/waste station, here's their reply.....
Dear Mr Nolan. Your recent comment form regarding facilities for travelling motor homes has been passed to me for response. Firstly may I state that I agree with your comments about the value and economic benefit to the local economy from this sector of the leisure market.
Having spent a fair bit of time over the years trying to identify potential sites to support the wider camping and caravanning demand I genuinely support your call for better facilities. The problem has been that the planning system, and its primary objective of protecting sensitive areas such as those designated greenbelt and greenspace, makes it very difficult to progress development of this type.
For your information we are in the early stages of trying to progress an extension to the existing caravan facilities adjacent to Victoria Park but this doesn't address your specific point about short term 'drop in' facilities for the highly mobile motor home market.
We are intent on redeveloping the Pleasureland site however and whilst it is not possible at this early stage to define exactly what will emerge in the final development we will aim to ensure that it is attractive to as many visitors and users as possible. I will ensure that the options being considered will include your suggestion.
Many thanks for your interest in Southport
